SPOTLIGHT:

A WINTER MUSICAL FEAST

While we're shivering through one of the coldest winters in years, Tuggeranong Arts Centre has a fantastic array of music scheduled through July and August to lift your spirits. Join us for the latest installment in the Twilight Classical Concert Series with Mystery and Magic at Twilight featuring rising stars of the ACT, or get moving to the sound of the Turner Brown Band, a funky sacred steel/blues/soul hybrid from the USA featuring Dom Turner of Backsliders fame.
For a truly unique experience, Revival House Project's new lieder project A Portrait of Mary, Queen of Scots featuring the vocal talents of Louise Keast and Shikara Ringdahl accompanied by live animation from Shags projected onto specially designed Tudor gowns created by Hue MacCulloch is hard to beat!

The Turner Brown Band

Friday 3 August, 7:30PM
We've already introduced you to slide guitar and blues virtuoso Dom Turner (Backsliders) and sacred steel guitarist Nikki D Brown, now let's talk about that guitar!

Nikki D Brown's Lap Slide Guitar

Did you know that lap steel guitars have been around since the 1880s?
Instead of pressing their fingers against the strings over the frets to produce chords as you would for a traditional guitar, lap steel guitar players use a metal or glass bar instead (a "steel" or "tone bar"). The instruments are also tuned differently - instead of the usual low-to-high E-A-D-G-B-E, they are usually tuned to an open chord and have up to ten strings.

See Nikki, Dom and the band live on stage

The Turner Brown Band is playing in Canberra for the first time ever on Friday 3 August, only at Tuggeranong Arts Centre. Book your ticket before they're gone!

Tickets: $45 Adults, $35 Concession.
