WHERE TRUE SOUND CAN BE FOUND

The Lullabye Factory is an Analog Recording Studio, Art Gallery & Booking Agency with a Concert Promotion division located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Welcome to The Lullabye Factory. Our philosophy is creating soulful top-notch analog recordings in an atmosphere where artists feel right at home. Our workflow is one that is direct and engaging, our focus being on creating musical revelation. We use Analog Equipment, from the recording console to the classic effects like spring reverb and tape delay. This makes our sound true and revealing. We are located next to the center of Amsterdam and the Westerpark area. We’ve got a bar and chill-area surrounded with different pieces of art, changing every once in a while as to always be inspired by different concepts of creation.

The Epicentre of The Lullabye Factory  is a D&R Orion analog studio console paired with a AMPEX MM1000 16- track tape recorder.

PHATTEST SOUND IN TOWN!

"The Beast" is Back!

If this is the first time that you receive our newsletter of if you missed it the first time: We are very happy to announce  that our sounds from now on are recorded on an AMPEX MM1000 16-track tape recorder.

In 1967 Ampex introduced a 16-track version of the MM 1000 which was the world's first 16-track professional tape recorder put into mass-production. We've got #152, with the black Ferrite Heads. The 16-track MM-1000 quickly became legendary for its tremendous flexibility, reliability and outstanding sound quality. This brought about the "golden age" of large format analog multitrack recorders which would last into the mid 1990s.The AMPEX MM1000, nicknamed "The Beast", is breathing new life onto Tape and makes for a beautiful Heart in the studio!

This year The Lullabye Factory started with The Lullabye Sessions. Read more about the Sessions and the Mixtape Project on our website!

The Sessions are held on Saturdays. In the coming up Sessions we have Creepy Karpis, Sailing to Suez, Robbing Banks, Red Beard Funk Circus, DJ Hagy, The Pheromones, Santa Fe, a classical pianist Katja HyunJung Ji and the artist Avi Kishna is participating with his Sarod.

Since the last newsletter the following bands were put on tape the size of one Reel.

In May The Muff , MOL and The Pavements came to the studio. MOL, a band from Delft, is the first band to record on this very special Lullabye Session. The 2 inch tape is rolling on our 60’s Beauty. The Muff rolled in their Hammond with Leslie, needed for their awesome seventies groove. After The Muff it’s The Pavements from Zwolle to record a live-session of Americana folk-rock.  Check out the Vid!

Lullabye Sessions part II: MOL, The Muff & The Pavements!
In June we invited Tumbling Dice and The Tiger Love Machine. Named after a Rolling Stones song Tumbling Dice made a great contribution to rock 'n roll in a very laid-back session. The Tiger Love Machine introduced us to the genre cowboy-grunge, and that works surprisingly well. No wonder that they played at a sold-out Paradiso, the legendary rock-venue in Amsterdam! We made a video of one of their tracks the played at the Session, which will be released soon!

Recording The Masters

In search of a pure analog way of getting our master tapes onto vinyl we announced in our last newsletter that we visited Record Industry, the biggest European vinyl pressing plant.

Recently, the MULANN Group announced the opening of a new analog tape plant in Lannion, France. MULANN carried the torch to Recording the Masters to reassure the future of analog audio tapes!

On January 2015, MULANN acquired the plant and expertise of the analog audio tapes production, with almost 100 years of history in magnetic tape manufacturing.

Like the philosophy of The Lullabye Factory they believe analog has a very important role in audio recording, besides the digital - pardon our French - solutions. Analog and Digital are the two sides of a coin, and the 21st century needs both of them.

The Lullabye Factory is of course very much interested in the process of manufacturing tape. Unfortunately it's not possible to visit the plant, because it is a chemical zone and it’s very protected.

Catherine was so kind to send us some pictures so that we could have an inside look.

They still produce Audio tapes in all widths and the formulas under their new brand "Recording the Masters". On their website they say: "Analog is our DNA". We love that! After our visit to Record Industry and this announcement we know for sure: Analogue Is The Future!

Thank you Gregory and Catherine and We look forward to Recording on Your Tapes Very Soon!
