About The Lullabye Factory

The Lullabye Factory is a Fully Analog Recording Studio, Art Gallery & Booking Agency with a Concert Promotion division located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The Lullabye Factory's philosophy is creating soulful top-notch analog recordings in an atmosphere where artists feel right at home. Our workflow is one that is direct and engaging, our focus being on creating musical revelation. We use Analog Equipment, from the recording console to the classic effects like spring reverb and tape delay. This makes our sound true and revealing. We are located next to the center of Amsterdam and the Westerpark area. We’ve got a bar and chill-area surrounded with different pieces of art, changing every once in a while as to always be inspired by different concepts of creation.

The Epicentre of The Lullabye Factory  is a D&R Orion analog studio console paired with a AMPEX MM1000 16- track tape recorder, the first professional tape recorder introduced in 1967. The 16-track MM-1000 quickly became legendary for its tremendous flexibility, reliability and outstanding sound quality. This brought about the "golden age" of large format analog multitrack recorders which would last into the mid 1990s. The AMPEX MM1000, nicknamed "The Beast", is breathing new life onto Tape and makes for a beautiful Heart in the studio!

Fun fact: We've got #152, with the black Ferrite Heads.

Analog Philosophy

From now on The Lullabye Factory is proud to announce that we are indeed fully analog. Not only the phoneline, tape-recorder, or the console, but also our illustrations, photo's and video footage are made the analog way. It won't take long before we do not tolerate any non-analog devices in the studio anymore and this newsletter will be brought to you by the postman..

We might sound crazy, but just wait...

In our last newsletter we introduced our new crewmembers. Richie Walker, an illustrator that graduated from ArtEz, University of Arts in Zwolle, is making flyers, the logo and the Mixtape Album Cover since he first walked in!

Ro Westerink is studying photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and is capturing all our events and the whole process of the Mixtape Project in analog photographs.

And every now and then we have some visitors that are attracted by the Analog Vision of The Lullabye Factory. How about these:
Will Boyd, a painter from the UK that felt right at home
And Lennart, a soul-funk dj & analog photgrapher
And last but not least our Heroin and Analog Ambassador Carly E. You will hear a lot more about her soon...
The Lullabye Sessions in September
No bands. But something magnificent happened at The Lullabye Factory on the Session in September.

The September "Indian Summer" Lullabye Session featured an exquisite set by Wouter Hakhoff with his trumpet, two violinists, a cellist, contrabass player and a pianist. They amazed us with two improvisational jazz pieces, from "The Isle of Simplicity" to "Imposed Equality" to "Greasy Fingers". After that Robin rock 'n rolled into the hallway with his campervan and Robbing Banks grooved away in the live-room with his jazzmaster & drums. Stay put for sound & vision!

Later that month we Invited Katja Hijung Jung Ji to our studio. She's a classical jazz pianist that studies at the Royal Conservatory for music in The Hague who truly amazed us at the studio and later that evening Zaal 100.
Next Sessions:

We had an awesome year of Sessions in 2016! From Solid, Raw Rock 'n Roll Sessions to Spiritual, Classical and Improvisational Pieces, we've enjoyed it all. We have only one session left this year, and that one is again filled with awesomeness.
The dates for the sessions in 2017 are:
  • 21th of January 2016
  • 18th of February 2017
  • 18th of March 2017
  • 15th of April 2017
  • 20th of May 2017
If you want to participate in The Lullabye Sessions, please contact for more information.

New Art-Gallery:
Photo Exposition by Joop Boek

As some of you might know we are building a new control room in October, to improve our working environment. After the controlroom is built, we will have a very Official Operator Booth-Warming, on which we will open our New Art-Gallery with pictures taken by Joop Boek in the Alkmaarse Veilinghallen. In 1988 the Everly Brothers, John Mayal, BB King, Hans and Candy Dulfer and many more artists, even Fats Domino, played there. We feel very honoured to host a photo exposition this autumn with pictures never shown before!

The artist in the last newsletter was of course.... Herman Brood! Did you recognise him? And do you know this artist?
