Newsletter 03 - April 2016

With the governance of the project largely in place, we're now more and more able to focus on what we came to build: 7 new tools for making land rights mapping faster, easier, cheaper, and more responsible. Here's is what we've been up to in the last month...

its4land@UN-GGIM. Our project is not only about R&D. It's about impact. It's about scaling. It's about reaching out to the broad range of stakeholders who will help create our tools - and also use them. This is why we're working hard to get along to as many industry, community, and government meetings as possible. In April Joep Crompvoets (KUL) and Tarek Zein represented as at the 4th High Level Meeting of the United Nations - Global Geospatial Information Management forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in April. The meeting now has a real strong focus on land administration - and Joep presented its4land to the delegates. Learn more here
Mini-Kick-Off 4 Rwanda. The guys at KUL, INES, and ESRI Rwanda were very busy in Musanze District, Rwanda from the 23-25 April. Before any field data collection for WP2 Get Needs can start - a reconnaissance and initial meet-and-greets to the intended case locations are needed. This is what Joep Crompvoets (KUL), Bruno Broucker (KUL), Mireille Biraro (INES), and Kaspar Kundert (ESRI Rwanda) worked on together. There was rain, blocked roads, and lots of good spirit. We think they've found the ideal case locations and scenarios for the planned fieldwork. More details here.
Mini-Kick-Off Ethiopia.
Like the Rwanda kick-off, similar meetings were held between Joep Crompvoets (KUL) and Berhanu Alemie (BDU) on future planning for Ethiopian fieldwork, stakeholder engagement, and case location identification. The meetings took place in Addis Ababa following UN-GGIM (20-22 April 2016). More details here
