Become a Passport Acceptance Facility

Interested in generating additional revenue, increasing community visibility, expanding your services and driving additional foot traffic through your doors?  Consider applying to become a Passport Acceptance Facility.  In 2015, more than 16 million passports were issued – 7.9 million of these applications were accepted by a network of 7,300 acceptance facilities. The State Department is projecting the demand for passports to rise to 20 million issuances annually over the next two years.
Public libraries have the opportunity to grow their services by providing a convenient way for patrons living and working in their area to submit their applications.

Spotlight: GabbieTake your patron care to the next level with “Gabbie,” Apollo’s two-way texting feature.  Patrons will receive text notifications from a custom SMS/cell number, solely for your library.  You’ll have a communications console to conduct conversations that links directly to patrons’ accounts – no additional equipment needed. "Gabbie" can also be used for an “Ask a Librarian” type feature on your website or within emails.

Lake Travis Bookmobile!
Lake Travis Community Library in Central Texas held the grand opening of their new bookmobile in August.  Pictured above is Lake Travis Community Library Director, Morgan McMillian and Bookmobile pilot, Karen Ballinger, alongside Clark Charbonnet with Biblionix and Eric Lashley, Director of Georgetown Public Library.

Value of Databases/e-Resources
As librarians, you know the value of the Deep Web and the premium resources that most of you offer to patrons.  We thought you might enjoy how this graphic depicts the situation.  (The original source is unclear, but thanks to the Anacortes Public Library in Washington for bringing it to our attention.)

At the recent Iowa Library Association conference, Clark Charbonnet of Biblionix and Misty Gray of the State Library of Iowa share a laugh.

Did You Know?
When you connect you ILS to other systems, including third-party eBook services, workstation management software, even patrons' browsers, do you know what patron data you're exposing and to whom?  At the Texas Library Association Conference in April 2016, Biblionix Chief Technology Office, Xan Charbonnet, presented Patron Data and Trust in an Online World. Discover whom you're trusting, how far you're trusting them, and learn ways to protect sensitive data from prying eyes.
