Dear LEAD Supporter,
We know data already showed 1 in 3 girls will struggle to achieve stability in adulthood. We also know that this pandemic has and will continue to create challenges for the girls and families we serve. As the Founder and Executive of LEAD, I believe that no girl should be faced with this as her reality. Not because of the color of her skin, not because she didn't attend the "right" school, not because she lived in the wrong zip code, not because she didn't have access. We will make sure we do our part, because every girl has the right to a better future.
That's why it gives me great excitement to announce:
Our LEAD Girls Alumnae Network launches today.
The LEAD Alumnae Network will allow girls who complete the middle school program to “graduate” into a special High School cohort of LEAD girls, joining the girls before them. The Alumnae network will keep the girls connected while also providing them with a wealth of resources to continue their growth as young women. LEAD will consistently provide the alumnae network with information about local resources and opportunities such as financial literacy classes, scholarship applications, job/internship openings, career readiness workshops, free educational resources, resume and interview workshops, and volunteer opportunities.
LEAD will be working to form partnerships that will collaborate with local organizations, and businesses to create opportunities such as college tours, internship programs, and scholarships specifically for LEAD Girls.
I hope you will consider a contribution to allow us to keep serving girls. They need us now more than ever! If we want to see change, we must be willing to do the work.
Standing for our girls,
Joy Nelson Thomas
