BCCAT Updates for our Partners
June 2018

Improving Access for BC's Diverse
Post-Secondary Learners

We invite our post-secondary partners to take a look at BCCAT's 2017-18 Annual Review. Success can mean different things for different students. For those involved in facilitating student mobility, it means that students are supported in accessing post-secondary education, and as they move forward on their respective journeys. BCCAT works together with the BC Transfer System to improve access to pathways, enabling diverse learners to advance towards their educational goals.

Articulation Committee Notes

As the 2018 articulation "season" winds down, BCCAT would like express appreciation for the commitment and engagement of so many committees, and in particular, to thank those who step up to serve as Chair. Whether as a one-off, for a single meeting, or as a long-serving leader, we've seen some superb and talented chairing this year. An effective Chair sets a constructive, inclusive and productive tone, and motivates her/his colleagues to make the most of the articulation network and the relationship-building opportunity that the annual meetings afford.  The transfer credit and articulation system works because of the trust created in these meetings, and this trust is encouraged by these strong Chairs.
We're also happy to announce the approval in May of three new Transfer Innovation projects:
  • The Modern Languages Articulation Committee (SCOLA) will be developing a test bank for common placement tests, built around shared learning outcomes, for introductory-level courses in several languages;
  • The Adult Basic Education working group for Adult Literacy (Fundamental will be streamlining its common learning outcomes; and
  • The Adult Basic Education Steering Committee will undertake a comprehensive and strategic analysis of the changes to the K-12 curriculum, and propose a plan for coordinating and prioritizing responses from the various ABE disciplines.
New applications for TI projects are welcome any time. The next deadline to submit a proposal is August 31, 2018.  Interested Articulation Committees should contact Meg Stainsby (

As BCCAT approaches its 30th anniversary in 2019, the BC Transfer System is continuing to thrive through the ongoing, extensive collaboration of faculty and staff at member institutions on behalf of students. Enhanced and expanded transfer technologies, flexible learner pathways, and system-focused research over the past year have produced efficiencies for institutions and greater accessibility and mobility for students. On behalf of the Council, its committees, and the hard-working BCCAT staff team, thank you for participating in and facilitating the collective success of the BC Transfer System.
