BCCAT updates for our post-secondary partners

April  2020

COVID-19:
BC Transfer System Updates

BCCAT recognizes the extraordinary efforts being made by transfer system members to support current and incoming students, and to minimize the impact of the COVID-19 crisis. To facilitate information-sharing across transfer system member institutions, we have created a centralized news page that brings together publicly released communication from post-secondary institutions and professional bodies addressing educational matters.

This page is in process. If you have information you wish to be included, please email us at info@bccat.ca. For additional institution-specific information, we recommend that you refer to the relevant institutional website.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the BCCAT office is temporarily closed. Staff operations continue as we work remotely to support our post-secondary partners through online platforms and resources. During this period, please direct general enquiries to the main office phone line (604-412-7700) or info@bccat.ca. Enquiries related to the BC Transfer Guide should be directed to bctransferguide@bccat.ca.

BCCAT Research Publications

  • Stale-Dated Credit:
Considerable time may elapse between when a student acquires credits and when they wish to use, re-use or transfer those credits. This study reviews policies and practices related to stale-dated credit at the 39 BC Transfer System member institutions, and makes recommendations to improve practices in this area.

  • Credits to Graduation:
The number of credits completed to earn a baccalaureate degree continues to be an important criterion for measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of transfer between post-secondary institutions. This study aims to compare the total number of credits completed for a baccalaureate degree by direct entry and transfer students at several large public universities in BC. See the BCCAT website for the full report and the summary.

Articulation Committee Project
(ACP) Funding

BCCAT's Transfer Innovations (TI) funding program was launched in 2000 to support research projects leading to new transfer pathways. Last year, the TI program was reviewed by a subcommittee of BCCAT's Transfer and Articulation Committee. The goal of the review was to continue supporting increased transfer opportunities for students while refining the proposal submission and evaluation process.

The TI program has now been relaunched as the Articulation Committee Project (ACP) funding program. Articulation committees can submit proposals for projects addressing transfer-related aspects of three identified themes (academic integrity, international transfer, and indigenization) or for projects addressing transfer issues within their own discipline. The maximum amount of funding per project is $15,000.

Click here to see the call for proposals, application form, and a guide for BCCAT contractorsThe submission deadline for ACP funding applications is August 21,2020.
