BCCAT updates for our post-secondary partners

Happy New Year!

Reflections on 2019 and clear vision for 2020

Throughout 2019, we celebrated BCCAT’s 30th anniversary by looking back over the years at how the BC Transfer System has grown and developed as an “ecosystem”. (Check out this special, commemorative video.)

Reflections on BC’s long history of transfer credit pathway development to the present day can help to inform us as we map a continuing path through the years ahead. In 2020, we look forward to continuing our collaboration with post-secondary partners as we build on the successes and strengths of this remarkable transfer community.

Survey of Mobile Students

- Institutional Data Extracts Now Available -

BCCAT is excited to announce that the institutional data extracts for the 2019 BCCAT Survey of Mobile Students are now available. Institutional Research offices at each BC public post-secondary can find their data on the Students Outcomes SharePoint site ( These files were produced in response to your requests for data to supplement the previously released institutional reports, and to support further analysis at your institutions.

The following files have been posted in each institution’s directory on the SharePoint site:

  • The data extracts in both SPSS (labeled) and Excel formats. (The Excel data extract includes separate tabs with variable and value labels.)
  • A README Word document with additional notes on the data.

Files will be available for download until February 29th, 2020.

Please contact Richard Vamos, Research Officer, BC Stats  ( if you have any questions about these survey data extracts.

Stepping Out Mid-Program

This project explores the students’ practice of “stepping out” to earn transfer credits at a second or additional institution, while continuing in a program at their first institution. Based on the data from a cohort of students who graduated in 2015/2016 from 21 Central Data Warehouse (CDW) public institutions in BC, the "Stepping Out" report describes the trends and patterns of “stepping out” by program, credential, institution and transfer credit volume.

What to watch out for in 2020:
  • launch of redesigned site, and enhancements to
  • launch of revised Transfer Innovations (TI) Program framework
  • release of paper examining the extent of unarticulated courses, and courses articulated at different year levels
  • ongoing expansion of the Transfer Credit System to include international and inter-provincial agreements on the BC Transfer Guide
...and more!
