#TalkingLymph on MLD after knee replacement
As My Mum goes in for a knee replacement this week while I am in Perth teaching classes, I thought it timely to highlight research conducted at University of WA on post-operative MLD. Vodder therapist Berit Jardine delivered 30-minutes of MLD on day 2, 3 and 4 after TKR surgery. On day 4, and at 6-weeks, the MLD group had greater flexion than controls.

Topical steroidal withdrawal is a distressing condition experienced by people who are coming off long term use of steroidal creams for conditions such as eczema. Symptoms include red burning skin, intense itching, lack of sleep, raised pustules, rashes and the risk of secondary infections. The Eczema Association of Australasia informs sufferers that there is no known or recommended treatment, but Theresa Mc Eleney at the Movement Clinic in Melbourne has helped many people through this distressing stage of withdrawal. These photos show the effects of 3 MLD treatments over 2-weeks. Read more on Theresa's Facebook page
Thank you to everyone that completed this survey. We received responses from every state and territory with the largest interest groups located in the Bathurst and Wodonga regions of Victoria, Wagga Wagga and Newcastle regions in NSW, and North/Far North Queensland.
The next step is to find local Organisers in each region who can do the ground work on finding a suitable venue and the other behind-the-scenes activities that are essential to delivering high quality Practical Courses. If you, or some one you know would be interesting in assisting with this please email me for an information sheet on what is involved.
The next round of Moving Lymph Scholarships will be tied to these regional courses and local Organisers may be also be eligible for free training in MLD.

Establishment of a National Lymphatic Commission on Lymphatic Diseases
The Lymphatic Education and Research Network (LE&RN) has achieved a major "win" for the lymphatic community, with advocacy efforts resulting in the establishment of a National Commission on Lymphatic Diseases that will make critical recommendations on coordinating NIH-wide lymphatic disease research. This is a pivotal moment in the fight for lymphatic diseases to be included as a research priority at NIH, and although these are USA based institutions, we will all benefit from the increased research that will follow. LE&RN also announced $1.5 million in funding to the CDC Chronic Disease Education and Awareness Program earmarked for lymphatic diseases. Read more at LE&RN.
