A free monthly update for Associates and Members of RiverRhee's Managers' Community

Welcome to RiverRhee's Managers' version of the June 2018 issue of eManagement Tips, our monthly resource for new and experienced managers who have attended or are considering one of our management courses.

We've been having an exciting and rewarding few weeks with a flurry of interest in our in-house courses*.  We love opportunities to do this as it gives us an opportunity to build internal teams, and to help them to address obstacles that have been getting in the way of them being able to perform at their best.

It's perhaps fitting then that this month's issue focuses on team work, and on setting your company up for success.

With the summer break fast approaching, we will be taking a pause in our open courses until September.  You can see details of our September - December courses at the end of the eManagement Tips.

Every team member can positively influence the team

When we help teams review how well they are working together (we call this a team health-check or diagnostic), we base this on 14 different team working practices. 

Together, these practices explore the team's thinking (or 'head"), the relationships within the team (it's "heart"), and the mechanics of the team (it's "gut"!)

Daniel Goleman and colleagues in booklet number 11: Teamwork, in the “Building Blocks of Emotional Intelligence” add another valuable layer in terms of what they call the team "norms".

As with all the booklets in the series, these norms (or habits, expectations and behaviours) are based on emotional intelligence.

Elisabeth has extracted the key messages from this booklet in: defining team norms for high performance teams.  It has valuable insights for team leaders, as for every member of a team.

Setting your company up for success

Learning and Development can have a very real impact on an organisation's bottom line.  Three or so weeks ago, Elisabeth had the privilege to participate as a judge for the category of Learning and Development in the finals of the UK Employee Excellence Awards.  Entries came from a variety of sectors and from large corporate organisations as well as smaller ones.

What struck Elisabeth was the passion of those presenting the entries for their awards – and these were CEOs and other C-suite managers, as well as HR professionals and individual team leaders.

The best entries were able to relate how their Learning and Development programmes were having a positive impact on their company’s bottom line and to the quality of the service they provided to their customers.

An update on RiverRhee's Associates

RiverRhee operates an Associate model to support delivery of our open and in-house courses and for one-to-one personal coaching.
