Looking for Peer Assist Volunteers on September 9th

We are conducting “Peer Assist Workshops” on September 9th. This is a structured process designed to help leaders problem solve, and assist with, a particular challenge being faced by a colleague.

Do you have a topic for which you would like to receive your colleagues’ advice?

If so, please email Nina Alcaraz at by close of business Thursday, September 8th, if you would like to receive feedback from your colleagues. The topic can be general (e.g., how do we maintain momentum in our communities) or specific (e.g., we have one organization in the community that would be a key partner, but we can’t get them to the table – please help!).

Policy Advocacy Network Meeting Update

The Bright Beginnings Policy Advocacy Network is up and running. The latest meeting was a great jumping-off point for discussions about advocacy at various levels, from our local school districts to county, state, and federal systems.

Here are some highlights:

  • School districts from various Collaborative Action Team communities participated and shared highlights of their work in early childhood. One area for potential strengthening through Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAPs) is to discuss stronger school and community partnerships.

  • Children’s Bill of Rights advocates discussed how to involve both youth and systems change leaders in forming a Bill of Rights that examines how to best support children and youth in our county.

  • Affordability of childcare has been a lasting concern in Monterey County and both state and federal legislation can affect our residents. The small group will work to develop language for the county legislative platform regarding early childhood development and identify legislation that can have profound impact our on families.

Join our next meeting!
