Costa Rica, Crocodiles, and Church Planting

What does a British couple living in Rio, a South African living in Buenos Aires and a couple from Georgia (US) living in Honduras all have in common with us?

We all pastor and lead International English-speaking churches…all over the world.

Last week we had the blessing of attending the International Baptist Convention (IBC) annual meeting and Multiply Church Planting Conference in San Jose, Costa Rica. These meetings bought together pastors and their wives from all over the world who lead international, English-speaking congregations. Conversing with people who are doing the same type of ministry that we will be doing in Panama was so encouraging for us.
Some highlights from the week:

  • Unity with the IBC family.  Learning and working alongside of seasoned pastors, church planters, and people that have been doing international ministry for decades made us eager for the work that is ahead.
  • Meeting the Interim pastor of LifeBridge.  The IBC has put in place an interim/transition pastor at LifeBrige to serve until we get there.  Meeting John and Lucy Helvestons, who after leading church for 25 years now serve in the interim in churches that are in transition, was such a blessing.  They serve sacrificially and have been a source of encouragement to us and the entire LifeBridge community.

  • Crocodiles!! We could not go to Costa Rica without having a little adventure.  One day we ventured to the coast and on the way stopped to check out some of the wildlife.  Have you even seen a crocodile? These guys are huge!  We were glad to be up on a bridge with these guys way below us.

Connections, Connections, Connections

It has been so incredible to see the connections and people that God has brought into our life.  Over the past couple of months God has brought people from our past and new friends into our lives. While in San Jose we had the opportunity to worship with IBC San Jose.  It was an encouraging morning with many [new] friends and little did we know that we would run into an old friend.  After the service a woman came up to talk with us, she said she recognized Nate as soon as she saw him.  She was one of Nate’s sixth grade teachers.  She shared how it was encouraging to see where Nate was now and it was encouraging for us to be reacquainted with an [old] friend.

Praise & Prayer

  • Support.  As we started to raise support we have been encouraged by so many people who are excited to pray for us and support us financially.  Pray that we these partnerships will continue.
  • LifeBridge and the Helvestons.  Pray that John, Lucy and the leadership team would continue to be encouraged as they lead at LifeBridge.
