The holiday season and travel

If you are planning to travel outside the United States, please remember the following information to make it easier for you to return to the U.S.:
  • Your form DS-2019 should by endorsed by an IPSO advisor. Please make an appointment as soon as you know your dates of travel.
  • The U.S. J-1 entry visa in your passport should still be valid for additional entries. If it is not, you will have to get a new entry visa from a U.S. embassy or consulate in your home country.
  • If you are traveling to Canada, Mexico, or adjacent islands in the Caribbean, consult your IPSO advisor for more information.
  • If you are traveling to a country other than your home country, you may need an entry visa and should contact that country’s embassy or consulate for information. This includes layovers.
  • You must have a valid passport, which will remain valid for at least six months after your return to the U.S.
  • Do not forget to schedule an appointment upon your return from travel.

Tax season is right around the corner

In the month of March, Augusta University Tax Specialist Rebecca Johnston will be presenting a Tax Workshop for J-1s and other international visitors and students. The workshop will explain everything you need to know about filing taxes in the U.S. We will announce dates and times for these workshops soon.

History of cookies

Cookies are popular all over the world, and the earliest cookie is thought to date back to the 7th century.  But in the United States, classic cookie baking and decorating have long been passed down from generation to generation. During the holiday season, cookies are baked in all sizes, colors and flavors, and the amounts are limitless! Many families have certain days set aside for cookie baking, while others start weeks in advance in preparation for the holiday season.
