Monday 3rd June 2019 | Dartmoor TSA Newsletter
In this issue:

Dear <<First Name>>

Welcome the the latest DTSA Newsletter. We are busy putting in place our programmes for next year. Our aim is to build on previous successes and expand the offer so that more teachers and leaders can have access to high quality, high impact CPLD at great value. We plan to publish our programme for next year by Monday 18th June. Watch this space ....

We know money is tight across the board. More and more of our core programmes are being offered to members free. For example, we are delighted to offer free primary and secondary NQT programmes next year.
Looking back to 2016, our first NQT programme was priced at £550, in 2017 £500 and in 2018 £400. We have been able to bring down course fees through building our membership base and working in partnership we other TSAs.

Please have a glance at the external Peer Review report (below) which was extremely positive. Have a look too at the many Safeguarding, Primary and Secondary courses available this half term - lots coming up!

Best wishes

Martin Smith | Director of Dartmoor TSA

External Peer Review highly positive

Dartmoor TSA's first Peer Review was undertaken on 23rd March 2019 by Dr Stuart Wilson (Headteacher of Marling School, Stroud). Please see the full draft report HEREAlthough there is no national review mechanism for TSAs, the Teaching School Council South West has developed a voluntary model which enables TSAs to access external evaluation of their effectiveness.

The draft report is overwhelming positive and highlights the strong progress we have made as a TSA in the last three years. Here are a few of the quotes that we are proud of:

  • "A strong and shared ethos of cooperation and collaboration defines many of the DTSA activities"
  • "A high level of engagement across the TSA from schools that value the quality and range of the offer"
  • "Robust oversight of ITT programmes with input from University of Exeter"

FREE | Secondary Early Career Programme for NQT & NQT+1

Dartmoor TSA is pleased to be able to launch a FREE new secondary Early Career Programme. This is a comprehensive two-year programme for NQTs and NQTs+1 and follows the new Early Career Framework that was published in March 2019. We anticipate running two cohorts - one during AM sessions, one PM - enabling schools to manage the release or multiple teachers if required.

FREE | Primary NQT Programme

We are pleased to be able to offer a superb Primary NQT programme for 2019-2020 which is free to all DTSA members. This programme aims to support NQTs to make an excellent start to their teaching career. It provides practical training, effective support and opportunities for the NQTs to learn from each other. The sessions are designed and delivered by Emma Slaven, a nationally recognised NQT Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) and a Babcock Associate in NQT Support. The programme has had excellent feedback in recent years so we are delighted to be able to offer this to DTSA NQTs.

Dartmoor TSA is working with all Devon TSAs and the EEF to offer a superb three-day Pupil Premium Programme for next year. We are expecting demand for places to be high and we can only support a limited number of schools to participate in the programme. We are running two cohorts in the Autumn term, one based in Devon and one in Plymouth & Torbay. Primarily the places are for schools in those geographical areas but if a venue or an alternative set of dates are more convenient to you then you are able to book onto that programme.
