Monday 30th April 2018 | Dartmoor TSA Newsletter
In this issue:

Dear <<First Name>>

Thanks for opening the latest issue of the Dartmoor TSA newsletter. We have been 'off-air' for the last half term as we focused on writing a Strategic School Improvement Fund (SSIF) Round 3 Application to support Maths at KS3. This was an enormous undertaking and whatever the outcome (we should hear in July) an important learning opportunity. Dates for SSIF Round 4 have yet to published but as a Teaching School we would be open to working with schools, Federation and MATs, as well as other TSAs, on submitting further applications. Please get in touch with me if you have an idea you would like to explore.

I would thoroughly recommend listening to the latest Dartmoor Dispatch Podcast produced by John Stanier. It explores John Hattie's book 'Visible Learning', a meta-analysis of what makes the greatest impact on pupils' learning. See below for link.

Lastly, our invoices for courses and membership is slower at the moment than normal due to the introduction of a new financial software system. Apologies if this has affected you in any way.

Hope to see you at the next Members' Forum on 22nd May (1-3).

Best wishes
Martin Smith | Director of Dartmoor TSA

Included in this, we have provided each school with details of their membership activity for 2017-2018, which we hope provides a useful record for leaders and governors. Thank you to all the schools that have renewed their membership with us; we are humbled to receive your support at a time when schools are facing increasing financial pressures. If you plan to renew and have yet to return your Membership Agreement please contact Fiona McNeile (fmcneile@dartmoortsa.org.uk). Thank you to Charlotte and welcome to Fiona

Charlotte Vukova, DTSA administrator since April 2016, has stepped down from this post to concentrate on her main role within Okehampton College. Charlotte has been central to the success of DTSA, organising events, communicating with members and clerking for the Board (to name but a few things). On behalf of all members I would like to thank Charlotte enormously for the work she has done.

Fiona McNeile takes on the role as the new DTSA Co-ordinator. Fiona is based at Okehampton College and is available Monday-Thursday between 9.30-3.00. Her contact email is fmcneile@dartmoortsa.org.uk. Fiona's role will be similar to Charlotte's but will include financial administration. A huge welcome to Fiona!

Create your own recruitment 'pipeline' with School Direct

What's the opportunity? We can recruit trainee teachers with you / for you and enable you to host their main placement. This can be a valuable way of managing teacher recruitment in an increasingly competitive climate. You may have a member of non-teaching staff or a parent looking to train. To find out more about our courses what we offer click HERE
At present, we have recruited 22 trainees for September 2018 involving main placements in 17 schools across the Alliance. Let us know if you would like us to develop a recruitment plan for your school.

Update on North Devon Teaching and Learning Leaders'

On Tuesday 24th April there was a very productive meeting of the North Devon Teaching and Learning Leaders and Deputy Heads at Chulmleigh Academy. Delegates discussed ways to ensure schools were fulfilling the DfE CPD standards, ensuring Key Stage 3 were not ‘wasted years’ and collaborated on ways to challenge the high attaining pupils in the area. We shall be organising three events for higher attaining Key Stage 3 pupils in the coming months:
o   Shakespeare in a day – can you stage a production of Henry V in just 24 hours?
o   Debating competition -  Cambridge University rules of course!
o   Chess Day – coaching and competition for all standards
If you would like more information about these events and would like your pupils to get involved, then please send me an email at
jstanier@dartmoortsa.org.uk
