Letter from the Director

A serendipitous encounter five years ago had me sharing a journey in Nairobi with a Kenyan scholar. Elizabeth Mburu, whom I had never met before, shared with me her frustration teaching her students using Western hermeneutics textbooks. I asked her what was so different? And out of her mouth came the first lines of what could be an excellent hermeneutics textbook, accessible and relevant to students in Africa. God has been good to her and we expect to publish this textbook later in 2018 in the HippoBooks imprint.

However, the surprises don’t stop there. In the latter part of 2017 the Africa Bible Commentary Board, with which Langham works closely, made the decision to appoint a new and younger team of scholars to update the commentary. Among their appointments was none other than Dr Elizabeth Mburu, appointed as the New Testament Revision Editor. Dr Mburu along with Dr Yacouba Sanon (General Editor) and Dr Kitoko Nsiku (OT Editor) will be in charge of seeing the Africa Bible Commentary revision through to completion over the next three to four years.

The Africa Bible Commentary has been such a successful resource, and like Elizabeth’s textbook on hermeneutics will prove to be, a vital tool in understanding and applying God’s word. Join us in thanks and in prayer for the team as they work on this ABC revision.

If you haven’t read the Africa Bible Commentary, make sure you pick up a copy today!
