Six days to go and the countdown is on to our Lead to Succeed Volunteering Conference. Speakers are locked in, the program is out and delegate bags all packed and ready to go. Registrations close soon so if you haven’t booked your spot, I urge you to get online now.

The program is jam-packed and we are pleased that Hon Zoe Bettison MP, Minister for Volunteers and His Excellency The Honourable Hieu Van Le AC and Governor of South Australia will officially commence the two day program with their welcome address.

We welcome keynote speakers, Tobi Johnson and Dr Thomas Nielsen along with our other nine guest speakers who will all be presenting on the theme of ‘leadership’.

I’d like to thank our event partner, Department for Communities and Social Inclusion and Conference champion, the Volunteering Strategy for South Australia 2014-2020 and also our generous sponsors (see below).

The National Advocacy Campaign to retain designated funding has gone from strength to strength and we are elated to have Rebekha Sharkie MP, Federal Member for Mayo on side who succinctly highlighted our campaign in Federal Parliament last week.

"Government cuts to volunteer support services means 10 of the 12 funded services in South Australia and the Northern Territory are set to close. Volunteers are the backbone of our communities!"

One of Volunteering SA/NT’s longest serving partners has taken out a top honour at this year’s Australian Retail Banking Awards.
Beyond Bank Australia has won the highly prestigious Best Bank in Corporate Social Responsibility at a glittering ceremony in Sydney.
The Bank was congratulated for showing that social responsibility has become a core part of its day to day business with innovative ideas that engage both staff and the local community.
“This is a huge honour for us as we are very much a Bank driven by our values and we are always checking to make sure that we are putting people before profits,” said Robert Keogh, CEO, Beyond Bank.
Beyond Bank took the award ahead of a strong list of finalists including NAB, Westpac, Bank Australia and Teachers’ Mutual Bank.

As a profit-for-purpose organisation, the contribution of our dedicated volunteers is invaluable. The time and energy they offer to help better the lives of those who use our services is a gift we are very grateful for.
Currently volunteers assist with social programs where they engage and support members with cooking, driving, gardening and other social activities. Volunteers also help members on a one-on-one basis assisting with computing, shopping, transport and attending social activities such as bingo.
Over the coming year, we will further developing our peer-to-peer volunteer scheme where we encourage people who use our various services to volunteer for each other. This not only builds neighbourliness and a sustainable community, but empowers self-esteem and inner confidence. This confidence is vital in achieving our goal of enabling people to continue to live independently at home. ECH Chief Executive David Panter
