3D printing is making prosthetics cheap and accessible in remote areas

In Guatemala, a hospital is using a 3D scanner to create templates for a prosthetic. The affordable process makes access to 3D-printed limbs possible even when the hospital itself can't afford it. Creating a typical prosthetic is a labor-intensive process whereas the digital process is faster: it only involves making a cast, 3D scanning the cast and then printing it.
Apple announces a menstrual cycle tracking app and 'noise' app to protect hearing

It's great to see that Apple is making advances in the health-tech sector. During their 2019 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced a new app called “Cycle Tracking,” designed to let women track and monitor their menstrual periods and fertility. They also announced an app called 'noise' designed to measure loud sounds in the environment and help protect hearing health.

  • Led by Leerink Transformation Partners (LTP), with participation from existing investors Optum Ventures and Qiming Venture Partners USA.

LetsGetChecked provides tests to evaluate sexual health and wellness, covering illnesses such as Celiac, Lyme, diabetes, and colon cancer, in addition to disorders involving the thyroid, liver, and more. Tests can be ordered once or on a recurring basis. Once the results are reviewed by board-certified clinicians, they are available to the customer within two to five days. 
Closed Loop Medicine, UK
  • £2.1 million
  • Pre-series A funding
  • Backers included Longwall Venture Partners, IQ Capital, and Martlet, as well as Cambridge Angel investors.

Closed Loop Medicine is a therapeutics company that combines proven drug treatments with digital therapeutics. The company’s approach uses data and insights about how a patient is responding to treatment to tailor drug and non-drug therapy.
