HealthTech News - Summary

Some key headlines and healthtech trends over the past year. 

1. Roche is investing millions into the Israeli healthtech startup ecosystem to accelerate development of diagnostic technology. The first time the Swiss company has taken part in a venture of this scale. Roche will partner with aMoon to launch an early stage accelerator. 

2. Sunderland Royal Hospital in the U.K. now in the highest international standard category for use of technology. With the trust using Meditech Electronic Patient Record which integrates with several other systems to support information sharing across North East and North Cumbria, read more


3. More than 2,000 pregnant women in the U.K. will be issued with a Continuous Glucose monitor which they will have access to for twelve months. They will join at least 75,000 people with Type 1 diabetes who joined the roll out last year. The monitor automatically alerts users if there are spikes in their sugar levels. This roll-out is being supported by the NHS

An interview with Hilla Shaviv 

Wen Ling Choong and Catherine Cheang recently had the pleasure of discussing women's health and wellbeing with Hilla Shaviv, founder of Gals Bio Ltd


Hilla is the CEO and Founder of Gals Bio Ltd. She is a Caltech and Tel Aviv Univ. graduate with a background in biomedical engineering. She is an inventor and serial entrepreneur in the field of women’s health and quality of life. She researched and published the first scientific work that relates between dysmenorrhea and menses viscosity and is the author of several pending and accepted patents. She is part of the Israeli Springboard Women Entrepreneur Society and functioned as an elected council member of Mevasseret Zion (where she lives), Israel. She believes that women empowerment should be done through education as well as the development, promotion and protection of their health and wellbeing.
