Progress in this area is driven by a stronger focus on education, the caliber of entrepreneurs entering the field, and a changing VC space that is becoming more open to the untapped potential out there. In addition to this, consumers are taking an active interest in taboo subjects.

AI to identify infection more than 48 hours before symptoms

Philips and the US Department of Defense have developed breakthrough technology using AI to identify infection more than 48 hours before observable symptoms. It revealed that using artificial intelligence (AI) to look at certain combinations of vital signs and other biomarkers could strongly predict the likelihood of infection up to 48 hours in advance of clinical suspicion. This could help reduce the time it takes to diagnose and treat patients.

Neurovalens, Ireland

  • Funded by Growth finance fund  

Neurovalens specialises in combining neuroscience and technology to tackle global health challenges such as obesity, diabetes and insomnia. The funding will support the launch of their new sleep product, Modius Sleep, a non-invasive headset that stimulates key sleep neurons in the brain to improve sleep.

  • Led by Scranton Enterprises
Rob surgical will use the funding to continue developing robotic surgery technology, finish the validation process and bring the product to market. They want to universalise high-precision surgery and have designed a flexible, modular, and open robotic platform that "will improve the effectiveness of today’s robotic surgery and make it accessible to more hospitals around the world".
