New EMODnet video – 10 years of EMODnet in 10 minutes

We are delighted to share this short documentary film which captures the EMODnet story over the last ten years. It tracks our journey from its launch, to where we are now and where we will go next.

EMODnet is a network of people and so despite being immersed in a global pandemic, we tried to gather insights from some of those who were instrumental in the early development years of EMODnet, those who have made it what it is today and those who use EMODnet and rely on it as an operational service.

We tried to make the impossible possible, to put 10 Years of history and achievements in a 10-minute documentary. Tune in and hear all about EMODnet, curating the past, capturing the present and charting the future! For those with less time available, you can also watch the shorter 2-minute teaser.

Users of the European Atlas of the Seas now have access to the most detailed background map available worldwide provided by EMODnet Bathymetry

September 2020 was an important month for the European Atlas of the Seas as this online ocean literacy tool saw its biggest revamp in more than two years. Citizens from all around Europe now have access to stunning marine maps and interactive oceanic information in the 24 official languages of the EU and explore in their own language a wide range of popular marine topics, such as tourism, litter, environment, energy, aquaculture, and much more! Many new features were also made available, including easier ways to print maps, an improved measurement tool, the most detailed background map from EMODnet Bathymetry and the integration of short stories highlighting interesting map layers.

Following the release of the multilingual Atlas, the campaign “24 reasons to learn about the ocean” features well-known public figures from around the EU, highlighting in their own language why you should #ExploreYourOcean!

Commissioner Sinkevičius launched the campaign with a quote in Lithuanian. Stay tuned on Twitter with the hashtag #ExploreYourOcean!
