Breaking News!   Sale of Burial Site Land to the FHT Likely

Findhorn Foundation Trustees are looking to transfer the area of land that the green burial site is on to the Findhorn Hinterland Trust with the details of the legal process commencing in the New Year.
This is good news as for the last five years there has been a consistent need to find who and how the community resource which is the green burial site is held with the thought that a long lease to the FHT from the new landowner would inevitably be the best option.  Due to the potential complexities of the leasing option and a new Scottish Burial Act published in April of this year requiring a Burial Authority to be set up and a 100+ year commitment to the site, sale for £1 with no cost to the FF is turning out to be the best option.  This has the potential for everyone to be winners; the landowner, the FHT, the land, the general public and people who may wish to use the green burial resource.

The Hinterland Fox

Late one autumn evening, I saw a great Red Fox.

I followed him among the gorse, then lost him in the rocks;

Kneeling on the yellow sand - the setting sun aflame,

I heard the sound of laughter and the whisper of my name......

Climbing amber sand dunes, I started up once more;

Saw the Fox  a - lying by some round rocks on the shore.

But the light was playing tricks, as evening autumn can;

Amongst the rocks there was no Fox, but a charming red - haired man!

He rose and came towards me, and gently took my hand

Raised it to his lips and murmured "Welcome to my land....."

I frowned and said "You are misled. From woods to wild sea

The lichen, sand - this Hinterland - it all belongs to me!"

Then he sung......

“Turn your face to the Hinterland wind,

Would you go where the Red Fox lies?

Would you come with me, would you run with me

Forever under autumn skies?"

Lewis Mendel's Green Burial
A well attended funeral at Wilkie's Wood Green Burial site for the much appreciated  and colourful character Lewis Mendel took place on Saturday the 10th of December.  This is the third month in a row the site has been used bringing the total number of lairs to 22 and those reserved to 50.

No December Event
Next -  Saturday 27th January - 9.30am-12 noon.

We will be taking a break this month and will be back on the land with our regular monthly activity mornings in January.  We are unsure right now if the priority might be cutting back the gorse undergrowth in the woods or if mild enough, a bit more tree planting - more information in the January newsletter.

Christmas Trees and Woodland Winter Gathering - A BIG THANK YOU!

A huge thank you to everyone that helped with and turned up at the Woodland Shelter to join in the FHT Christmas Tree Event this year.  The gathering certainly brings people together in a relaxed and fun way, trees are lovingly selected and it makes some money to help the FHT do the great work that it does.  Over £600 has been raised so far.  BRILLIANT!

Great to Celebrate Together!
