Sandy's Green Burial

This month saw the passing of longtime Park resident and well known personality, Sandy Barr.  Sandy spent the last 35 years of his life working in many different ways to support the work of the Findhorn Foundation which included being the General Secretary for a number of years, working in the Education Department and caring for Traigh Bhan the Foundation's retreat house on Iona.
It was most fitting for Sandy to have chosen a green burial in the Wilkies Wood as he had a great love of this land with a strong connection particularly to trees and bees as well as spending many early mornings walking here.  His well attended funeral took place on Thursday the 10th November and was blessed by chilly but fine autumn weather.  His son David, daughter Shirley and grandson Conor were amongst those there to give him a suitable send off.
Each person buried on the site has a piece about them entered into the Peoples' History book which is at present being digitalised so that this information can be seen online.  We will inform you when Sandy's informative eulogy has been uploaded. In the meantime you may want to have a look at the photo collage that documents his funeral.

More Woodland Trust trees to go into the ground - hazel, hawthorn, blackthorn and much more.
Come help us plant.

Oh Christmas Tree!
Last year's gathering with trees, people, a fire and something warm and Christmasy for folks to eat and drink.
A well appreciated event!
Karen Mitchell - Our new Membership Secretary
Karen moved from Cumbria to the Findhorn area in July to work for Trees for Life as Relationships Manager, responsible for fundraising and marketing. She was inspired to join the Findhorn Hinterland Trust when she first arrived, having walked around the area. She says: "Being able to contribute to nature conservation on my doorstep is a great antidote to office work."
She has stepped into the role whilst Kim Emmerson visits her family in Australia for some months.
Thank you and a warm welcome Karen!
A final walk in the woods with Sandy Barr, family and friends.

Tree Planting  / Saturday 26th November - 9.30am-12 noon.

In the last ten years over two thousand native trees have been planted and lovingly tended in and around Wilkies Wood and alongside firebreaks.  Most of these have been gratefully received from other environmental charities such as the Woodland Trust and the Trust for Conservation Volunteers - click on WT or TCV to see their excellent nation wide campaigns and/or if you are interested in obtaining trees for your worthy cause.
This autumn we have over a hundred new plants to get in the ground.  Some will go as the final bit of hedging around the Edible Woodland Garden and others will fill in gaps in the woods.  Do come and join us to bring even more vibrance and biodiversity to this land.
