The solace that stitching provides is well known to anyone who has picked up a needle and thread.
In 2021, SFSNAD focused on developing programs that support mental health and wellness for teens and tweens, a particularly key age group. Here are some of the programs that donations in 2021 supported:
- SFSNAD’s Surface Expressions Program offers technical and professional development for transitional age youth with less traditional college and career goals, teaching them to stitch and how to operate their own small embroidery-based business.
- The Stitching for Wellness Program targets teens and tweens, offering ways to cope with anxiety and stress through hand stitching.
These programs empower participants to gain independence while learning a healthy way to combat stress, anxiety, and the rigors of a fast paced world. We teach these programs for FREE because most schools do not have funding in place for them.
SFSNAD has a unique opportunity in 2023 – to expand the Stitching for Wellness program throughout the SF Unified School District, SF Boys and Girls Clubs, and into the East Bay. The need for this youth program is extremely high – and we want to help. In order to do this, we need to raise $40,000 before the end of the year to provide this expanded programming in 2023. Thanks to all of you who have donated, we are more than halfway to reaching our goal! If you can give, whatever you give will enable us to move the needle forward in this expansion.
