Expanding our minds, expanding our learning and expanding our outreach to diverse cultures, audiences, educators and students is at the core of SFSNAD’s mission. Although our origin story places us in San Francisco, the global experience of hand embroidery gives us a world view. Intergenerational, historically complex, diverse, and interconnected – these are the stories we tell through our Webinar Speaker Series. We bring thought leaders, academics, contemporary artists, designers and writers to our community semi-monthly through thought provoking presentations, discussions and Q&As. Support from you helps us to grow in this quickly changing area - and to cultivate a healthy worldview of this global art form - by offering this program for free or low cost.
All artwork has a story, some of it narrative, some of it practical. The SFSNAD story is the same. The lyrical, narrative part is what you encounter when you visit and take a class, see an exhibit or listen to a webinar. It is the story you learn from our books and our collection pieces. The practical part is behind the scenes where we balance bank accounts, run excel spreadsheets and pay bills. It is also the part where we raise money to help pay for all those beautiful and lyrical things we all love about SFSNAD.
