Join SFSNAD and Threadwritten’s Sarah Pedlow for a very special class taught by Ukrainian Embroidery Artist Hanna Rohatynska. 100% of the proceeds from this class will be donated to organizations outlined by Hanna that support and are dedicated to preserving cultural heritage and aiding Ukrainian children and soldiers affected by the war. The unique design we will stitch together has been created by Hannah for this special event. Artist Christina Shmigel will join us to share her Ukrainian mother’s embroidery and her family’s emigration to the US in the 1940s. Details and registration can be found here.
This is a wonderful opportunity to be in community with stitchers from around the world who want to celebrate embroidery while aiding those in need in Ukraine. Beginners and all levels of embroidery experience are welcome. This World Embroidery Day event has been underwritten by a generous donor so that 100% of your donation dollars can be distributed in the Ukraine.
Special Thanks to Ellice Sperber for her organizational support and guidance in producing this event!
About World Embroidery Day:
The World Embroidery Day initiative came from Skåne Sy-d, a local group of Broderiakademin, the Swedish Embroiderer’s Guild. The first World Embroidery Day took place in Vismarlöv, 30th July 2011. Their Manifesto states: “The importance of embroidery must be made known and World Embroidery Day will spread around the world. Make 30th July a day filled with creativity for the sake of Peace, Freedom and Equality.”
