CBA34 Week 3 is all about YOU.


Art Sanctuary's biggest strength is our family of supporters, members, staff, and volunteers. We are constantly amazed at the black art being created by the people coming in and out of our gallery, and it is our goal to help further the work!

Our upcoming week of events is tailored to give you and your artistic process some needed TLC. We all need support as artists, and CBA34 is our chance to celebrate you by giving a boost to your creative projects. Whether you are seeking to build your song-writing capacity, learn some new dance moves, create art with the young folks in your life, or experience a world-premiere ballet, we've got you covered! 

With no further ado, here's information about our third week of events:
MUSIC WRITING WORKSHOP
WITH CARVIN G. HAGGINS

Philly is a great music town, and Art Sanctuary is honored to celebrate and contribute to this musical legacy.

Special Partnership:
BALLETX SUMMER SERIES

FRIDAY, JULY 20TH @ 8PM
WILMA THEATER (265 S BROAD STREET)

We will be hosting a really cool event for our homeless community on Friday, July 20th, that is ONLY for that special community.  We didn't want to leave you with nothing to do that evening, so Join BalletX and Art Sanctuary for a special performance of BalletX's Summer Series 2018, featuring world premieres by Penny Saunders, Matthew Neenan, and Andrew McNicol.

We are offering FREE tickets to the first 30 respondents. After this, tickets will only be $5 per person.

Tickets include:

  • Pre-Show Reception with Art Sanctuary Guests and BalletX Artistic Staff
  • Access to the Performance
  • Post-Show Meet & Greet with the BalletX Dancers

Pop Up Shop- Join us for an afternoon of shopping sustainably sourced and gently used clothing and accessories curated by black fashion entrepreneurs. Get tips on updating your wardrobe. See a piece you love but doesn’t fit? No problem! A tailor will be onsite to take measurements and perform basic alterations. Free-donations accepted and items will be on sale - Think Fashion and Jazmine Gould

DO YOU HEAR WHAT I SEE? 
NOW THROUGH JULY 31ST
ART SANCTUARY GALLERY (628 S 16TH ST)

The centerpiece of the 34th Celebration of Black Arts Festival is the month-long exhibition "Do You Hear What I See?", featuring rarely seen photographs of black music icons from by photographer Ron St. Clair.

The showcase will include several candid photos of some of the most influential musicians in the 20th century, including Berry Gordon, Duke Ellington, Harry Belafonte, Patti LaBelle, just to name a few; and each piece will be available to purchase throughout the duration of the exhibition.
