Celebrating black women, each and every day.

Art Sanctuary has always prioritized the uplifting of black women entrepreneurs, artists, and other self-starters! We make it our goal to spotlight the women who help our gallery run everyday, those who fight for our rights, and those who keep us laughing at the TV screen!

For this month's #CBATBT, we're highlighting our Awkward Conversation with Issa Rae in 2012, and our Brand Your Cool Panel from this year's #CBA34 celebration.

We love the 2012 conversation because it truly shows the progression of our community, with Issa Rae's much-deserved success with Insecure, and former Art Sanctuary Managing Director Tarana Burke's groundbreaking work on behalf of the #MeToo Movement. This summer, we kept this same energy going by looking to the Philadelphia-specific expertise of Tanisha Dunham, Stephanie Keene, Melissa Simpson, and Danielle P. Jeter. (For more about these phenomenal women, check out their bios here.) We are sure they're going to be next in the spotlight!

Still interested in celebrating? Check out our exhibit Covered: Celebrating Muslim Women, and come see the great events we have planned in the coming weeks!

P.S. Want a blast from the past? Check out the recording of our conversation with Issa Rae.
