The Sermon

"Nourished" - The Rev. Alexis Fuller-Wright
From the Interim Minister . . .
Dear Christ Congregation Friends,
I hardly need to remind you that this Sunday, October 23, is one of those milestone events in the life of any congregation, the vote for election of a new pastor.  Please make every effort to be present for the worship service, the ensuing congregational meeting, and the “simple meal” to follow.
You have already been introduced by brochure to the Pastoral Search Committee’s nominee for Pastor, The Rev. Alexis Fuller-Wright who currently serves the Old South First Congregational Church (UCC) of Farmington, Maine.  On Sunday she will lead worship and preach, assisted by our Intern Rebecca Francisco. A congregational meeting will then be opened by Moderator Carol McCollough for a period of question-and-answer dialogue with Alexis. (You are invited, by the way, to submit any questions you have for Alexis in advance by emailing the church office at
Alexis will then retire and congregational deliberation will take place, culminating in a vote by secret ballot whether to call Alexis to be the installed pastor of Christ Congregation.  After adjournment and communication of the results to Alexis, you are all cordially invited to a simple meal to conclude the process.
Saturday, October 22, will be devoted to an informal “meet and greet” time for visiting with Alexis and getting acquainted (please see the announcement and schedule elsewhere in this Newsletter).  Last Sunday I announced from the pulpit that Alexis’ wife Liz and daughter Nora would not be joining her for the trip to Princeton; but quite happily their plans have changed so that now the entire family will be present—good news!
Since this entire process will be new to many of you, let me just explain that by tradition and for good reason I as Interim Minister will not participate directly or be present in the weekend events.  That is deliberate in order not to obscure or influence the election process in any way.  Alexis and I are already in communication and look forward to a shared transitional ministry in the weeks ahead—but that is the next chapter! If “the way is clear” (that is Presbyterian-speak) Alexis will begin her ministry at Christ Congregation during the last week in January, preaching for the first time on February 5, 2017.
Please do keep all the members of this cast of characters—including yourselves—in meditation and prayer, and as St. Paul reminds us, “Whatever you do, in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God through him.” (Col. 3)

I will be back in the pulpit on October 30th and look forward to seeing you then.
Blessings and Peace,
Looking Around
