Pastor's Note:

I was walking past the sleepy flower beds outside the seminary library this morning when I spotted the tiny sprouts of spring bulbs emerging from the snow-dusted soil. These tiny whispers of things to come made me think of the church season in which we currently find ourselves. It's called ordinary time, which ultimately translates into the time period that isn't a major liturgical event (like Christmas or Lent). While we at Christ Congregation come from many different ecumenical practices, this idea of the in-between time, of ordinary time, is a universal concept. So much of our lives are marked by waiting, by anticipating: waiting for things to get better, for healing to come.

This Sunday, I will be preaching about confidently anticipating God's presence -- pondering what it looks like to live as those who center their lives around Christ and the promise his life represents. In the meantime, keep an eye out for the tiny little marks of a season's change, and know that God the Creator is near.
Welcome to the Pulpit this Sunday
Pastor Denise Carrell
Sermon Title: Confident Expectation

Scripture Reading: Luke 2:22-40; 1 Peter 2:1-10
Join us on Tonight! , February 2nd, 7:30-9:00 pm for Sala Fellowship Night, “Will you be Thine?- An Exploration of Agape Love.”  This engaging evening will be hosted by our favorite valentine, Reverend Robert Moore.

***Sala is a monthly fellowship which is hosted by a member who shares their “knowing” with the group or coordinates an event for a most special evening. Refreshments are served followed by a guided meditation and then an activity or presentation/group discussion chosen by the host. Sala is an all inclusive, safe, sober, and beautiful space to feed one’s soul!

"Addressing the Epidemic of Police Brutality" Webinar - Coalition for Peace Action

Our Bible study meets following the 10 AM services
(2nd, 4th, & 5th Sundays)

Bible Study will begin about 10-15 minutes after the end of worship and will conclude by 12:15. It is discussion-oriented, and we welcome the input and insights of all participants.

Our discussion is based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the Sunday following the one we meet for the Bible Study.

We will next meet on Feb 12.
[Pastor Bob will be away at his grandson's baptism. Those who wish to meet on the 12th will take leadership of the study time.]

Peace, Bob

HYGIENE ITEM DRIVE FOR LOCAL FAMILIES
Our church has been invited to collect items for a Hygiene Drive for the Princeton Mobile Food Pantry.

This volunteer-led organization distributes food and groceries to over 200 families in Princeton, with a focus on families with children in Princeton Public Schools.   This is a great short-term service project for us!   Learn more about them at https://www.pmfpantry.org/who-we-are
(This is not the same group that ran the Pop Up Pantry several years ago, but one with similar objectives of addressing local needs).
The Hygiene drive runs through February to March 12th, and the items we should collect are shown in the chart below.

Our first step is to find a CC person to lead, and to cheerlead,  this drive.  You remind us to bring in our donations in Sunday Announcements and in the newsletter.   Denise and I will help you find a place in the church to store the items people bring.   After the drive, we will need several people to sort the items and take them to the Food Pantry drop-off in the nearby Princeton Shopping Center.  Our drop-off day will be March 14th.  The Mobile Food Pantry people are very eager to help us with questions and logistics.

This project helps immediate neighbors of the church who live with food and funds insufficiency.   Please contact Pastor Denise or me if you could lead up this effort.   We'd like to start publicizing as soon as we can!

Book Group
Hi, folks.

On Charles McCollough's suggestion, we have decided to read and discuss New York Times' best selling author Temple Grandin's book Visual Thinking: The Hidden Gifts of People Who Think In Pictures, Patterns, and Abstractions.

We will meet by Zoom on Saturday, February 25th, at 7:00PM.

Charles is eager to share what is, for him, a very personal insight, and we hope that many of you will be able to join us.

Prayers of the People

"This is my prayer."
For healing and comfort for our illness, grief, and pain.
With joy for birth and baptism and constant renewal.
For a way forward in the face of continued gun violence and racism. For help as we struggle to understand.
For stillness.
For renewed energy and sense of purpose for Live Well Church and Christ Congregation.
For courage and strength for our Search Committee and our Council and pastor.

"This is our prayer."
