Pastor's Note:I

As the clock strikes midnight on January 31, and as we turn to 2023, let us all spend some time remembering God’s provision and faithfulness!

A few questions you might ponder before the new year:

What did God bring you through in 2022?

What did God teach you?

How did you experience God’s love?

What are your favorite memories?

What are you most proud of?

What energized you? What drained you?

How did your relationship with God change this year?

What are you hoping for in 2023?

What is one thing you want to do differently or one area to grow?

May we all come into 2023 with gratitude for another year! Blessings for joy, peace, and love!

Interfaith-RISE

LAST CALL on the Christmas Coat Drive:
Through Sunday, Jan 1, we are collecting new and gently used coats for Interfaith-RISE to help immigrants and refugees coming from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Peru, Venezuela, and countries in Central America.
At the Christmas Eve service, we collected a special monetary offering to help support I-Rise. If you would still like to contribute to this, please speak to Pastor Denise this week.

The second wave of collected coats will be deliverd to I-Rise on Monday, Jan 2, 2023.

Happy New Year 2023! --- Sala Fellowship Night

Join us on Thursday, January 5th, 7:30-9:00 pm for New Year’s Re-SOUL-utions!

An Engaging Workshop on Spiritual Resolutions in our Daily Lives.
Hosted by István Suto

During the winter, light itself just seems different.  With ice, snow, and the winter sun, reflections abound around us and often our sight is literally blinded.  In this worksop, we will explore spiritual techniques we can use to help guide us throughout the year and find inner peace, love, and serenity.  This intimate workshop will include meditation, mirror work, and group sharing of the light we reflect through our individual practices.

***Sala is a monthly fellowship which is hosted by a member who shares their “knowing” with the group or coordinates an event for a most special evening. Refreshments are served followed by a guided meditation and then an activity or presentation/group discussion chosen by the host. Sala is an all inclusive, safe, sober, and beautiful space to feed one’s soul!

Interested in hosting a Sala evening in 2023?  Reach out to Istvan at Istvans7513@gmail.com or attend this Sala night in January where we will be planning upcoming Sala nights.

Our Bible study meets following the 10 AM services (2nd, 4th, & 5th Sundays).

Bible Study will begin about 10-15 minutes after the end of worship and will conclude by 12:15. It is discussion-oriented, and we welcome the input and insights of all participants.

Our discussion is based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the Sunday following the one we meet for the Bible Study.

We will next meet on Jan 8, and will study the lectionary scriptures for the week of Jan 15.

If you are struggling to pay energy bills, help is available. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Universal Service Fund (USF) have expanded to include more people at higher income levels. For example, a family of four with monthly income of $9,250.00 may be eligible and should apply for the USF. (ONLY THE LAST MONTH OF INCOME COUNTS.) If you are not eligible for LIHEAP or USF, there are moderate-income programs, such as the PAGE Grand/or NJ SHARES, which may provide the help you need. For more information, or to find out how to apply, call 1-800-510-3102 0r "211" (7 days a week). Visit pseg.com/ayuda (Spanish) for online applications links.
Book Group
Hi folks,

Our next book group discussion will be on Saturday, January 28th, at 7:00PM by Zoom. We will discuss Isabel Wilkerson's 2010 National Bestseller, The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration.

It is appropriate timing since February is Black History Month, and Ms Wilkerson provides us with a compelling story of the migration of Black Americans from the American South to cities in the North and West. As part of the great scope of this monumental work she features personal stories of three individuals in particular, with differing experiences but with much in common, and provides insight into problems that still exist to this day. It is truly a compelling read and one that is sure to engage you if you have not already read it. The book is over 500 pages long, but the author is such a great story teller that it reads faster than you might expect.

All are welcome. We hope you can join us for our discussion.

Joe and Carol Sundeen

Hope to see you there.

Prayers of the People

"This is my prayer."
For comfort and companionship.
Traveling mercies.
For comfort and healing.
For peace and a way forward for those who are victims of violence and unthinkable tragedy.
With gratitude for all the beauty and love in our lives and for the poignant losses of this year.
For Ukraine and Iran.
For our children, our parents, our partners, our friends.

"This is our prayer."
