The Sermon Blessed for the Journey - Rev. Fuller-Wright
From the Pastor's Desk . . .
Beloved Christ Congregation,
It will be so good to finally worship with you this Sunday! When I looked at the lectionary I was thrilled to see that we will spend the the month of February working through the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew's gospel, starting this week with the Beatitudes. There could not be a better place to start our ministry together, as the Beatitudes are so central to Jesus's message -- both an assurance of God's presence among those who have been marginalized and a call to build a different kind of world together. Now I don't know about you, but after watching the news unfold over the last two weeks, I desperately need the reminder that God is at work, even when we feel powerless. I also need a reminder of how God's priorities for our world differ from our culture's hallmarks of success. If you find yourself in need of that, too, then I hope you will join us.
By the way, Joanne and I have had a ball brainstorming worship together. You'll find some changes in the order of worship this week, which I hope will help us enter more deeply into the heart of God. Each change has been made with a great deal of intention and we would love to hear your feedback.
I'm so excited to kick off our ministry together this Sunday. Until then, blessings on the journey!
Sunday, February 5th – This is Rev. Alexis Fuller-Wright’s first Sunday. You may contact her via email at PastorAlexis@ccprinceton.org. Her Sabbath days are Mondays and Saturdays, so please only contact her in case of emergency on those days.
Please join us after service for coffee hour as we welcome Pastor Alexis, Liz and Nora Fuller-Wright.
Sunday, February 12, 2017 – Special Congregational Meeting: A brief congregational meeting will be called after worship to consider suspending our Constitution for a time. It has not been amended since September 29, 1991, and although it has served us well for many years, it is clearly out of date and no longer works for us as well as it did 26 years ago. Since we are fewer in number, we would like to expand our definitions of “member” to include people who have worshiped with us for a significant period and who have demonstrated their commitment to us by contributing to the life of our congregation in meaningful ways. We would like for these people to be permitted to serve on boards and committees of Christ Congregation. The Constitution will be suspended only for a time so that we can see what does work for our congregation and to incorporate that understanding in a revised document.
The nominating committee will consist of Sarah Staats and Carol McCollough. Please be in touch with them if you are interested in serving Christ Congregation in some way.
Sunday, February 26, 2017 – The Annual Congregational Meeting will be held after worship. Reports from Chairs of Boards and Committees are due to Jeff Hoffman via email by February 12th.
To submit announcements and suggestions to be included in the CC Newsletter, email email@example.com by Wednesday each week.
