La Vista Farm Newsletter 9/19/16      CSA Week 19     "A" Week

Greetings friends!
As you know, the weather this year has been very challenging. Throughout early and mid summer we have received multiple stretches of heavy rainfall followed by record high temperatures: a combination not conducive to plant vitality. The crops thrive when there is a moderate amount of rain and high temperatures. While we do our best and work long hours to ensure new crops are being planted in the weather appropriate small windows, we have no control over the weather. We appreciate your patience while the share has been lighter. We hope you rejoice when the share is abundant again- knowing that the fundamental concept behind joining a CSA is localizing our food system, returning funds back to the local economy and supporting small farmers by sharing both the risks and benefits. Please remember that the average monetary value of your share is $25/week for locally grown, nutrient rich food that is grown with love and organic methods. If you price the organic produce at Whole Foods, the share would cost far more. We anticipate a bountiful share will return with the autumn equinox, as it always has in the Midwest.
Until then, thank for being a part of the good food movement.
