VUU News

An Update on the Congregation Administrator Search
The Personnel Committee currently is collaborating with the new Interim Minister, the Rev. Fred Wooden, on hiring a full-time Congregation Administrator. When Sue Ringler resigned in June, the committee and Rev. Andy completed a search/interview process and hired Matthew Clark as an interim administrator. Matthew is serving until a full-time administrator can be hired. He is in the office two days a week and otherwise online completing the deposits, handling correspondence, organizing paper and electronic files, and collaborating with staff and volunteers on other administrative duties.  The Personnel Committee hopes to have a full-time Congregation Administrator in place in the very near future who can work with Rev. Wooden and Matthew to ensure a smooth transition. Members of the Personnel Committee are Nancy Harrell (chair), Lynn DeMuth, Steve Grams, Rick Hinrichs, and Sharon Osborn-Popp.
Compost for the VUU Garden
The VUU garden needs nourishment! Since we have not been gathering together each Sunday, our compost donations have declined. We are preparing the soil for fall planting and would appreciate your contributions to our compost bins.
It’s easy! Here are the things we prefer for composting
•    Raw plant-based kitchen scraps (peels, cores, and whole past-their-prime fruits and vegetables (bigger items should be chopped up))
•    Coffee grounds
•    Wood ashes
•    Leaves and soft stems from vegetable garden plants, flowers, and weeds
•    Soft fluffy grass clippings (green is best, but dry is good too)
•    Sawdust
The garden is located in the northwest corner of the VUU parking lot. There are compost bins right at the edge of the parking lot with stones on their lids that indicate which could use a donation! Look for the “Feed Me” messages. For additional items that could be used for our compost or for more information, please contact Ken St. John at

Thank you!

The Page Turners July Announcement
The Page Turners are continuing to meet via Zoom. If you enjoy reading and discussing books, we would be happy to have you join us. You are welcome to join us for all of our meetings or just when the book is of interest to you. The August book is Educated by Tara Westover. Educated is an account of the struggle for self-invention. It is a tale of fierce family loyalty and of the grief that comes with severing the closest of ties. With the acute insight that distinguishes all great writers, Westover has crafted a universal coming-of-age story that gets to the heart of what an education is and what it offers: the perspective to see one's life through new eyes and the will to change it.

The meeting will be on August 20 at 7:15 p.m. If you would like to receive the Zoom link, email Amy at
