Winter time
The colder months and shorter days can be a hard time for many of us to adjust to. You can feel less motivated to take part in activities you usually enjoy doing or you might notice your mood has changed. Keep reading for some tips to beat the winter blues.
Mind and Body
The Aisling Irish Community Center provides a range of holistic activities geared to helping individuals take care of themselves. We offer activities such as yoga, monthly movie groups, reading groups, referrals to athletic clubs (NY GAA & NY Ladies GAA). For a list of up-to-date weekly social/recreational activities please contact the Aisling Irish Community Center at (914) 237-5121.
The First Few Months
For recent immigrants, a move to a new country can be stressful. We can feel isolated when separated from our families, friends and neighbours, especially coming up to the Holidays. The pressures of long work hours, low pay, extended commutes, the absence of strong community and cultural ties, rearing children and the lack of social support can affect our lives and relationships. Be aware of the stresses and don't feel afraid to let someone know you're struggling.
Being a Real Friend
Sometimes being a friend is the most important role you can play when someone you know is in trouble. You can help. Tell your friend you’re worried about them. Be prepared for opposition. However, sometimes the best step is to get professional help.
