Poem in Fall Lines &
Saluda River Poetry Prize Finalist

Leah’s poem, “Old farmhouse: The living room,” about the living room and its contents in her childhood home, was published in the 2016 print issue of Fall Lines. The issue is available in and around Columbia, South Carolina, and can be found at Tapp’s Arts Center. The published poem was a Finalist in the Saluda River Prize for Poetry, chosen by South Carolina Poet Laureate Marjory Wentworth, and selected for the issue by Columbia Poet Laureate Dr. Ed Madden. Fall Lines is a literary project of Jasper magazine, Richland Library, One Columbia, and University of South Carolina Press; and the poem is part of Leah’s forthcoming poetry collection about her Midwestern childhood home, Reverse Migration: not coming home.

Leah had her most recent creative nonfiction piece, an essay/review of Kaitlyn Greenidge’s debut novel, We Love You, Charlie Freeman, the history of black sign language in America, and finding a common language to talk about race and gender, published in the Books section of the popular literary site, Electric Literature. You can read the review, fully titled “A Language for Race and Gender: On Kaitlyn Greenidge’s We Love You, Charlie Freeman,” in its entirety for free HERE.

New Reviews in Publishers Weekly

In May, Leah began writing reviews for the popular literary-resource publication, Publishers Weekly. The reviews are brief and give you a good idea of what each book is about in 250 words or fewer. Leah’s first four reviews can be read by clicking the book covers below.
