This Sunday we are having an intergenerational service around the theme of remembering our baptisms. I think that it’s important that we take the time to remember those moments, and the folks that were with us during that time. This Sunday we will have the opportunity to truly experience the elements of baptism through interactive stations that will be set up. The purpose of having stations is so that rather than hearing me drone on and on and on and on and on…. We can actually experience the elements of baptism that this faith community holds dear. Moreover, if you haven’t been baptized and want to get a glimpse into what baptism means at WUC, then this is a perfect opportunity to check it out in a fun and interactive setting.
We would like to encourage you to remember your baptism by looking up the date and sharing pictures of the occasion (either hard copy or digitally on your phone). Bring your pictures or baptismal candles to church on Sunday if available. As an added incentive, the photo containing the best dressed individual for baptism will win a prize! We look forward to worshipping with you on this Sunday!

The air was filled with excitement at Oak Table Community Ministry in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as guests who signed up for Beach Day confirmed the details. “What time should I be here?” “How many are going?” “What time does the bus leave?” “What are we having for lunch?” were common questions. A few guests were anxious, wanting to know how their ID would be safe if they went in the water, or how they would get breakfast that morning since they usually go to a soup kitchen.

Some things were easily solved. The ministry would help keep wallets safe; they would serve juice and a muffin to everyone when they arrived. Other things were not easily solved and showed just how alone in the world many of the guests are. As those staffing the camp did their due diligence in making sure they had phone numbers and names of next of kin or a friend who could be contacted in case of emergency, they quickly found out that many had no one they could name. No friend, no relative, no neighbour to call if something happened to them.

It is hard to imagine that someone could be so isolated, so alone. When Oak Table guests are hospitalized, the ministry is their contact person. When someone goes in for surgery, often Oak Table is the name that goes down as the emergency contact. The ministry’s staff and volunteers are the ones who miss them when they are not there. They are their family.

For those attending, Beach Day could be the only “family” outing they have, with the only “family” they know.

Your gifts for Mission & Service help make sure all have a place to go and people they can call family.

If Mission & Service giving is already a regular part of your life, thank you so much! If you have not given, please join me in making Mission & Service giving a regular part of your life of faith. Loving our neighbour is at the heart of our Mission & Service.

West Ridge School

An adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's and James Lapine's fairytale comes to life with West Ridge School's production of Into the Woods JR. Students bring back all of your favourite childhood characters from classic fairytales, as you are joined by the likes of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch. Enter into a lyrical retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.
The musical focuses on the Baker and his wife, who hope to have a child; Cinderella who wishes to go to the King's festival; and Jack and his cow Milky White.  The characters stories weave among one another as the Baker and his wife embark on a journey to break the witch's curse.
West Ridge's Into the Woods Jr brings you singing, dancing, laughs and thrills. Director Kerrie Lutz describes the musical as “an energetic and highly entertaining performance delivered by amazingly talented students.”
Tickets can be purchased through the main office of West Ridge School at a cost of $10.
