The worship theme this Sunday is 'Living into your Legacy'. As it is All Saints day - we will take special time in the service to honour those whom we have lost and remember what it means to live purposefully with God being our helper. We will talk and think about what it takes to make a dream move from paper to reality. And we'll think about what we want to be remembered for in our time together and our time in the world. What do you want people to remember you for?
But, hopefully we will see each other before Sunday!
Woodcliff is buzzing this weekend. The 29th annual Global Festival is all set up and ready to kick off. This weekend is for everyone in our community, shopping with purpose at Outreach's annual Global Festival. Shopping fair trade lets you know you are supporting those that make and grow the products - and bonus Christmas shopping checked off without hitting the mall.  Listening and seeing the sounds of absolutely amazing choirs and music at the performance tonight and Saturday afternoon of New Canadian Kid. This play has a valuable message for all - and is extremely entertaining to boot! The youth of Woodcliff have worked very hard to put this production together and would love you to see it! Get your tickets at the door - trust me you will not want to miss it.  Or enjoy a meal with others at the Global Cafe, hearty soups and yummy pie all lovingly made from scratch. So often we find comfort in staying in the same section of the sanctuary or focusing on our own ministries and we miss out on some amazing things happening around us. I hope you will  make time to be with your wider church family in some way over the next few days.

Whatever you do this weekend, do it knowing that you are loved and you are special and you bring wonderful things to the world around you.

In India, Mission & Service partner Human Rights and Advocacy Research Foundation works with fishing communities, urban poor, traditional farmers, prisoners, Dalits (people of low caste), and Adivasis (Indigenous people) in the continuing struggle for economic and social justice.

One of its programs helps children whose families cannot provide essential school supplies. In addition, it educates the children on their human rights. Here are two of the children who have benefitted from this program.

Lilly is 15 years old. Her mother is a street fish vendor, and her father is a daily wage fisher who is not well. Lilly says, “Sometime we struggle to make ends meet.” Lilly wants to become an accountant. Her mother, Mohana, says, “I will not forget this timely help which prevented me from going into debt.”

Thilagavathy is 15 years old. Her father is a fisher and is unable to contribute much to the family’s income. Her mother is a street fish vendor whose income sustains the family. Thilagavathy wants to become a police officer. Her mother says, “She is bright in her studies, and I did not have the means...I am so thankful.”

With Mission & Service partners, the United Church works to achieve access to education for everyone, regardless of income or social status. This work is an essential part of securing greater justice, broad-based participation in society, and the eradication of poverty.

If Mission & Service giving is already a regular part of your life, thank you so much! If you have not given, please join me in making Mission & Service giving a regular part of your life of faith. Loving our neighbour is at the heart of our Mission & Service.

Calgary Meals on Wheels and our volunteers will be the Elves of Cookie Kitchen at Southcentre Mall once again this Holiday Season. To make this possible, we are still in need of volunteers to fill  over 100 spots number during the 6 weeks to ensure the kitchen is open for business!
This volunteer opportunity is all about engaging with kids, having fun and embracing the Christmas Spirit. You will be a part of providing a welcoming experience for the guests and their kids by greeting, assisting, and providing them with cookies (pre-made), icing and decorations. There will also be other tasks, such as tidying up and restocking required throughout the day. Support will be provided by the Southcentre Holiday Team, located close by.
If you are interested in volunteering, please click here.    There are a variety of day, evening and weekend shift; something for everyone!  Thank you for helping us sprinkle good cheer to all!
