MINISTER'S MESSAGE

On Monday I was having a conversation with a few people about some of the good places to grab food such as pizza or ice cream.  One of my persona favorites to grab a slice is at Pizza Hut. but I quickly found out that the BEST spot for pizza was Matador Pizza.  As for ice cream, I had went to Marble Slab and witnessed the delicious perfection that was there, but once again, I was told it was not the best spot.  The best spot for ice cream is Village Ice Cream.

This got me to thinking and smiling at how well we know (or don't know) the neighborhoods that we live, play and eat in.  It takes experimentation, time and trust to find the spots that you would recommend to a friend or to a try a new spot where we live.  At Woodcliff, as we continue to grow into what it means to be a community church, let us take these opportunities to truly get to know our neighbors and what they are yearning for.  Let us get to know our neighbors as well as we know the best eateries around.

As for me, I am heading off to enjoy mini doughnuts and ice cream at the Stampede as I continue to learn about this community and the wonderful city that it's in.

Blessings,
Eric

Economic Empowerment for Indigenous Women

In Guatemala, our gifts for Mission & Service support the ministry of the Fraternidad de Presbiteriales Mayas (FPM), or Women’s Network of Maya Presbyterials, which provides Indigenous women in the area with microcredit loans so they can set up their own businesses and become economically independent.

One group FPM supports is called Nuevo Esperanza (New Hope). Located just outside Quetzaltenango, the women in this group make chocolate and operate a bakery and a small restaurant. Guatemala has one of the largest Indigenous populations by percentage in Latin America. Argelia Poz, Executive Director of FPM, says it is important to work with Indigenous women to improve their families’ economic well-being and to strengthen the voices of women in church and society.

If Mission & Service giving is already a regular part of your life, thank you so much! If you have not given, please join me in making Mission & Service giving a regular part of your life of faith. Loving our neighbour is at the heart of our Mission & Service.
