In preparation for our March 8 Annual Congregational Meeting, the following link will enable you to download the 2019 Woodcliff United Church Financial Statements. Paper copies of this report will be available through the church office. Thank you to Steve C for his diligence, expertise and long hours.
The Count Team is looking for a few more members. The team is made up of groups of 3-4 people (2 of whom must not be related). Groups are responsible for sorting and counting up the offering at the end of each service. This takes about 30-45 minutes after the service. Each group typically does this for a 3 week block, twice a year. If you can join the team either as a group member, or even to fill in once in awhile, we'd love to see you!' Please contact Kathleen at woodcliffcount@gmail.com
We are currently looking for folks who would like to read Scripture, lead the prayers of the People and to assist with serving communion. The way in which you may sign up is through SignUp.com.  Please see the instructions below:

Thank you to all who helped with or participated in the meaningful presentation of Wall-E last Friday night. Over 50 people enjoyed our waste-less dinner and Eco-friendly activities. It was a great kick off to the Lenten Season.
Many thanks to all those that attended the Lunch and Learn last Sunday featuring the film: The Sacred Relationship.  We amalgamated all of the thoughts, ideas and drawings that participants shared and have attached them to the Peace Pole so lovingly created by Sheri and Charlotte.  Thank you to the Outreach Committee for their amazing soup and dedication to bring this event to us on a busy weekend. Our Journey for Common Ground continues.
This week in Sunday School we will begin our Journey through Lent. We will be looking at our relationship with the earth.

Question to ponder with your child: What can we do as a family to make God smile today?

From now until Easter, we will be joining in the service until after the presentation of the connecting Pixar films and will go downstairs just before the anthem begins.

SUPPORTING MINISTERS FINANCIALLY

The Financial Assistance Committee of The United Church of Canada oversees nine funds to support ministry personnel and lay members during times of extraordinary financial hardship, personal or vocational assessment, post-secondary education, and sabbatical leave. Three funds are supported by Mission & Service.

The Support and Advocacy Fund provides financial assistance for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and Two-Spirit ministry personnel who are experiencing difficulties in maintaining employment in the church because of their known or perceived sexual orientation or identity.

The Personnel Emergency Fund provides financial support to a pastoral charge to fulfill their obligation of salary continuance to ministry personnel and congregational designated ministers who are on administrative leave or suspension, as part of a disciplinary process.

The Fund for Survivors of Sexual Misconduct assists with the costs of counselling for two distinct groups. First, ministry personnel who are survivors of sexual abuse are supported to stay in active ministry while participating in therapy. Second, individuals who have experienced sexual misconduct in a United Church context are provided with financial contributions toward the cost of counselling to enhance their healing.

One recent recipient says, “It has been a long journey. I am deeply grateful to The United Church of Canada for caring about victims of sexual abuse. I hope for my own healing and for the healing of others.”

Your gifts to Mission & Service help support ministry personnel, lay individuals, and pastoral charges with important financial assistance during difficult circumstances.

If Mission & Service giving is already a regular part of your life, thank you so much! If you have not given, please join me in making Mission & Service giving a regular part of your life of faith. Loving our neighbour is at the heart of our Mission & Service.

McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes and Heritage Funeral Services have been sponsoring Dr. Wolfelt to Calgary to share his “Companioning Philosophy” for many years. Through the wonderful feedback we receive from participants we are pleased to sponsor two sessions in April 2020.

Dr. Wolfelt’s compassionate approach of “companioning” versus “treating” mourners helps people to mourn well so they can live well and love well. His time with us will begin with an evening session for individuals and families who are grieving a loss. Dr. Wolfelt will help all of us understand how loss influences our lives, through storytelling and delicately expressed humour and hope.

The following morning Dr. Wolfelt will teach a workshop for our caregiving community, it will help anyone who wants to learn more about how to support those who have experienced loss.

Please join us for these complimentary seminars.
