Greetings friends,
A number of folks have asked me about the video that was shown on Sunday. We watched approximately 8 minutes of a 15 minute video. I have put the link below along with another video from a dad’s perspective and one other clip that I think is worth a watch. Within Creation there is a rich tapestry of stories that make up the human condition. Some we are familiar with, others we are not. Some stories are easily understood while others require thinking and reflecting intentionally on what it means to hear and be transformed by the story.
Part of the Affirming process is being receptive to the multitude of human stories that make up the world that we live in. There is an incredible amount of diversity out there- and it can be overwhelming at times. That is why the Affirming Committee seeks to move slowly and intentionally through the process, so that we may gain a deeper appreciation of the richness of the stories of the people of God. As I mentioned on Sunday, Affirming is not simply about welcoming, but about lifting up, loving and cherishing the stories and persons from all the folks under the rainbow. This process is a long one, and it does look at a large array of topics. However, the common theme of listening, learning, loving and affirming are constant throughout.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please speak to one of the members on our Affirming Committee or speak to myself.
Rev. Eric
Thank you to everyone who contributed food over the last 5 weeks for our friends at the Calgary Food Bank. The amount of donations were incredible! And thank you to everyone who participated in our Canstruction event after worship last Sunday. The competition was fierce and the results were amazing. Special thanks go out to our Woodcliff engineers who headed up teams: Heather, Stephen, Steve, Allan, Dianne, and Evan and our esteemed judges: Cliff, Kelly, and Troy. This event would not have been possible without any of you. And a final thank you to the children in Grades 1 -3 who moved all the food donations to the lower level for the competition. Well done!

Our judges were impressed with the ingenuity and hard work of every team and the scores were close but in the end the youngest team by far, Team Green, headed by Dianne, came out ahead! Their creation, 'The Living Room', is on display along with a few others in the Narthex. Check it out on Sunday! Congratulations to everyone!

This process is not for gifts to the entire staff or, for congregants to present gifts directly to staff!.
Examples could include: gift cards, Stampeder tickets, works of art, chocolate, a plant etc.
There is no deadline for this initiative.
If you’d like more information or can support this request, please contact Brian Plesuk or 403 242-863.

As we look back over our history as The United Church of Canada, we remember one of the saints whose work forms the foundation that the United Church of ours is built on: Audrey McKim.

Audrey McKim was born in Toronto in 1926. At the United Church, she was an editor of Discovery and World Friends with the Board of Sunday School Publications. She was also the Director of Christian Education at two Toronto churches. Audrey was one of the first United Church of Canada missionaries in Kenya, where she served for 10 years. She initially went to Kenya as a deacon of the United Church, and was part of the Canadian contingent to Operation Crossroads Africa in 1962.

In 1963, Audrey returned as a Christian Education Worker with the National Christian Council and the Christian Churches Educational Association, where she worked until 1967. She was also a prolific writer and authored numerous articles and books, mostly for children. She was a founding member of the Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators and Performers. Her children’s storybooks and books of prayer are filled with words and images that teach as well as entertain.

If Mission & Service giving is already a regular part of your life, thank you so much! If you have not given, please join me in making Mission & Service giving a regular part of your life of faith. Loving our neighbour is at the heart of our Mission & Service.
