Hello faith community,

Under the faithful guidance of our Duty of Care team as well as recommendations from the Chinook Winds Region and The United Church Canada, the staff have developed a plan regarding coronavirus (COVID-19). Out of an abundance of caution and care for the well being for all who gather here, we would like to share the following with you:

The United Church’s mission will guide us to do what is right:

To love one another as Christ loved us, to provide hope and compassion, to take action and respond to community need.

Don’t panic but take precautionary measures:

Please do not come to church if you are feeling ill of it you have a fever, cough & shortness of breath.

Thoroughly wash your hands frequently with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer only if soap and water is not available.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, especially with unwashed hands.

Avoid close contact with those who are sick.

Cough and sneeze into your sleeve and not into your hands.

Additional cleaning protocol has been put in place in our church, including regularly wiping down commonly used areas like door handles, railings and switches.

Some temporary changes you might notice in our Sunday services:

Door greeters have been instructed to not shake hands or give hugs, but rather a warm verbal greeting to minimize person-to-person contact.

Bulletins will be available on the table in the Narthex and will not be given by hand.

Passing of the Peace will be adapted to replace handshakes or hugs with non-physical touch greetings.  Namaste, words of greeting and elbow taps are welcome!

Offering will be collected before and after the service in the form of a drop box available at the entrance to the sanctuary.

Communion will be suspended until further notice.

Coffee service will be provided by baristas and served in single-use, compostable cups.

Food service will be done on individual compostable plates or through the barista style service.

We are implementing these changes in the best interest of the collective health of everyone who interacts at Woodcliff United Church.

If for any reason you are self isolating or ill, please let the office know. We are setting up and updating supports for you and can offer you more information as it becomes available.

If you have concerns or questions, please call Health Link at 811 to speak to a registered nurse. To learn more about best practices to protect against coronavirus (COVID-19) and for updates, please visit the AHS website:

A new job description has been created for Sheri to better encompass the work that her job has evolved to include over the last few years of transition at Woodcliff.

Effective April 1st, she will be taking on the roll of Faith Formation Coordinator - 20 hours per week.

This roll folds in the work she has been doing and will continue to do with Children's ministry - planning, coordinating and facilitating the weekly programs for our young people and increases her support of our Youth Ministry.
Sheri will also continue to collaborate with the office on communications and graphic design support.
In addition, her new roll will allow her and Eric to work together on visioning, growth and spiritual direction for the entire congregation. Sheri will take the lead in a more direct way with creating and supporting meaningful intergenerational events and worship experiences, spiritual education opportunities and community outreach.
We are currently looking for folks who would like to read Scripture, lead the prayers of the People and to assist with serving communion. The way in which you may sign up is through SignUp.com.  Please see the instructions below:

We will be looking at words of prayers and enjoying pie!

Remember to check on your Secret Pal mail.

This week we will also begin learning our songs for Palm Sunday Intergenerational service.
We are still looking for a few participants for the drama production that day. If you are interested please contact Sheri: woodcliffkids@gmail.com

Camino de Emaús

Camino de Emaús is a vibrant ministry serving hispanophones (mainly from Chile) and francophones in Montreal, thanks in part to support from Mission & Service.

In recent years Camino de Emaús created a wellness program geared to seniors called Camino de Oro, or Golden Path. They organize outings, fitness and dance classes, wellness workshops with guest speakers, and other activities to foster community and combat social isolation.

Camino de Emaús also recently exhibited its memory museum and participated in commemorating those whose lives were lost or forever changed by the coup in Chile on September 11, 1973. Several people shared photos and thoughts of lost loved ones and also called for everyone to continue to work together, with respect and tolerance, to show solidarity not only with Chile but also with other causes closer to home, as there is still much to improve in Chile, Canada, and the world.

Camino de Emaús is a faith-filled community that welcomes those in need of healing and support.

If Mission & Service giving is already a regular part of your life, thank you so much! If you have not given, please join me in making Mission & Service giving a regular part of your life of faith. Loving our neighbour is at the heart of our Mission & Service.

McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes and Heritage Funeral Services have been sponsoring Dr. Wolfelt to Calgary to share his “Companioning Philosophy” for many years. Through the wonderful feedback we receive from participants we are pleased to sponsor two sessions in April 2020.

Dr. Wolfelt’s compassionate approach of “companioning” versus “treating” mourners helps people to mourn well so they can live well and love well. His time with us will begin with an evening session for individuals and families who are grieving a loss. Dr. Wolfelt will help all of us understand how loss influences our lives, through storytelling and delicately expressed humour and hope.

The following morning Dr. Wolfelt will teach a workshop for our caregiving community, it will help anyone who wants to learn more about how to support those who have experienced loss.

Please join us for these complimentary seminars.
