Urban-LEDS II takes off in Lao PDR

Pakse City, Lao PDR: The project Accelerating climate action through the promotion of Urban Low Emission Development Strategies (URBAN-LEDS II), represented by relevant ministries and participating cities, was officially launched in Lao PDR on 26 March 2019. ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability Southeast Asia Secretariat (ICLEI SEAS) and UN-Habitat jointly implements the European Union-funded project which runs from 2017-2021.

Seoul, select SEA cities exchange ideas on ambitious, people-centric strategies on low emission development

Representatives from the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) as well as cities of Hanoi, DKI Jakarta, and Pasig — model cities of the Ambitious City Promises project, convened for a two-day workshop last 6-7 December 2018 at the Joy-Nostalg Hotel in Ortigas, Pasig City. The joint project meeting served as a platform to report on the project’s progress, brainstorm about potential pilot interventions, and facilitate city-to-city learning.

Stakeholders pledge support for Ikhtiar Jakarta

ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability in coordination with DKI Jakarta organized a multi-stakeholder Public Consultation as part of the Ambitious City Promises project. Held at DKI Jakarta City Hall on 4 March 2019, this served as the culminating activity for the series of public consultations conducted between October 2018 and March 2019.

Quezon City moves toward inclusive and transformative climate action planning

Representatives of Quezon City Government’s Environmental Policy Management Council (QG-EPMC) convened last 14 March 2019 to conclude the strategic appraisal of the city’s climate action plan including baseline information and capacity gaps. The workshop was designed and facilitated by ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability Southeast Asia Secretariat (ICLEI SEAS).

Pasig City develops capacity on GHG emissions inventory data collection tools and methodologies
Pasig City Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) environment inspectors and technical staff convened last 18 and 25 March at the Tanghalang Pasigueño, Pasig City to participate in the Capacity Building Workshop on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventory Data Collection Tools and Methodologies. The workshop, co-organized by ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability Southeast Asia Secretariat (ICLEI SEAS) and Pasig CENRO, is a two-day event designed with lectures and hands-on activities to build capacities of CENRO inspectors and technical staff on conducting data collection activities for the city’s GHG emissions inventory.

Hanoi conducts first wave of stakeholder consultation to promote engagement and participation to city-led climate action strategies 

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DONRE) of Hanoi gathered key non-government organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), and other relevant stakeholders to streamline programs and strategies towards climate change and environmental sustainability in a consultation workshop last 21 March 2019. The event aimed to communicate city-led plans and strategies to address climate change and to identify points of cooperation with various stakeholders within the city.

DKI Jakarta rallies support of youth and religious sector towards low emission development

DKI Jakarta, in coordination with ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability Southeast Asia Secretariat (SEAS)- Yayasan Indonesia facilitated consultations with the youth and religious sector on the 7th and 14th of February to discuss the sectors’ active role towards promoting low emission development.

Hanoi City learns about low emission development models from other cities in Vietnam

ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability Southeast Asia Secretariat (ICLEI SEAS), in coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DONRE) of Hanoi, organized a study tour participated by technical staff and city representatives of Hanoi, Soc Son, and Son Tay from 14 to 17 March 2019. The delegation visited sites in Ho Chi Minh City and An Giang Province to learn more about low emission development strategies and forwarding local climate action in Vietnam.
