Onwards and Upwards for 2018

Only a month and a half into 2018 and we've already been out and about, visiting projects and getting stuck in. Having toured and visited numerous different projects it's been a great time checking that our support is going to the right places and to the people that need it most.

Project Updates

Atlas All Schools showcase in South Africa

Jason and Judgie have been out visiting a number of projects that we work with in South Africa and meeting up with a couple of old Atlas friends. We started with a trip to Boland to keep ourselves updated on our Atlas All Schools programme being rolled out there around the world. Directed by the South African Rugby Legends who we work with around South Africa. Having seen the success the project is having there it has increased our confidence in expanding to more cities across South Africa and increasing the amount of children that we support.
This was followed by a catch up with ex-England player Matt Stevens who is one of our South African Ambassadors and is doing a great job to 'prop' up our projects.

Lastly, there was a visit to the Masiphumelele RFC. Richmond RFC support this feeding programme with us and it is doing a fantastic job in supporting the young children in the community, teaching them key life values such as respect and determination which only rugby can do.

Christmas in the City of Joy

Our CEO Sally Pettipher chose to spend the holiday season working with our rugby family out in India. Khelo Rugby held a winter camp for street children and other disadvantaged children from the local community, to allow them to get together, get some food and play some rugby. This camp had an average of 1000 children a day and made a real difference to poor children from all over Kolkata as you can see from the faces of the children above!

From here Sally travelled North to Saraswatipur, a remote village on the edge of the Himalayas. Khelo rugby, with the support of Atlas, are going to build a new community centre in the village which will act as a hub for the charity to work out of as well as provide an increased sense of togetherness for those living in the area.

The Latest on Atlas All Schools

At the end of 2017, we held a dinner event in the House of Lords in which we created further awareness of our Atlas All Schools campaign which has really flourished in recent months. In attendance were a number of new Atlas supporters as well as the CEO of Rugby Israel who work as our delivery partners for the Atlas All Schools programme in Israel.

We have specialised in supporting schools in Israel which work with mixed communities in Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv and more disadvantaged areas. We are also supporting rugby engagement programmes which work with young Eritrean refugees. The Atlas team will be heading over to Israel in June to visit the communities that we are supporting.
