As we approach what most people call “the holidays”, I am reminded about how so many of us musical types are actually going into what is often the busiest time of the year - holiday concerts, innumerable Nutcrackers, parties for friends, colleagues and families, shopping. It can be exhausting. I know I often have good intentions of finally being able to take care of things that I can’t during the rest of the year (organizing up my office, for example), but after the holiday rush I rarely have any energy to do much more than relax. And that, I suppose is my holiday message. When you have the chance to stop, just stop! Without guilt! Enjoy your downtime.

On behalf of the AMEF board, Here’s wishing you a merry Christmas and a healthy, prosperous, happy and musical New Year!

Chair

Most recent Board activity
The last meeting was held on September 16, 2018 previous to our Annual General Meeting.  The usual activity of approving reports and statements took place, and the following motions were also passed:
MOTION 2018-26: To add 30 hours to fund personnel during Music Conference Alberta.
MOTION 2018-29: To award $750 in grant funds to the Cochrane Music Society.
MOTION 2018-30: To award the AMEF Recognition Award to David Tutt.

Since that meeting, some business has been conducted online.  This includes the acceptance of the new Executive Director contract and the awarding of a $750 grant to the University of Lethbridge Conservatory of Music.

Next Board Meeting: Currently scheduled for January 20, 2018
Thanks to the generosity of Quikcard, AMEF's Music for Kids students at Ormsby School in Edmonton were able to attend the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra's Masterworks concert on October 4, 2018 at the Winspear Centre, and were even treated to a demonstration of the Davis Concert Organ.  For more, read the members-only Winter edition of The Clarion coming out in December.
