INTRODUCING: CHIAO SUN




Hey Innis! (~~~Hey what~~~) My name is Chiao Sun, and I am the Digital Projects Coordinator at the Innis Registrar's Office, the Photographer for the Innis College Office of Student Life, and a Senior House Representative on the Innis Residence Council.

As an Innis upper year student, I want to remind you of a couple of the awesome Innis resources that we have:
  • Innis Inspirations: discover the Innis community with storytelling and photography! 
  • Innis Writing Centre: boost your essay mark with the help of specialists from the Writing Centre!
  • Innis Registrar's Office: whether you are looking for professional academic advice or life tips in general, the Innis Registrar's Office is always there to help!
  • Innis Office of Student Life: do you find yourself needing someone to talk to? The OSL is always looking to connect more people to this awesome community!
  • QuickQueries: packed with tips from professors and students! You can also ask any questions 24/7! 


Thanksgiving was celebrated this Monday - a nationally-recognized Canadian holiday since 1879. Its origins are in the traditional European celebration of autumn harvest and was continued throughout Canada as it was colonized. If nothing else, we can all give thanks for a three-day weekend! (And pumpkin spice lattes.)

WRITING PLUS ACADEMIC SKILLS WORKSHOPS 

The Writing Centres, in collaboration with U of T Libraries, the Academic Success Centre, and the ASSU, are offering a campus-wide series of academic skills workshops! All workshops are free! All of the workshops are offered several times in the year, so check out both Saturday and weekday schedules to find times that suit you!

POSITION AVAILABLE: TRINITY ART SHOW

The Trinity Art Show 2017 is looking for a Digital Marketing and Media Director to be part of the curatorial executive. The Digital Marketing and Media Director will assist with the development of social media and marketing strategies as well as running and maintaining all social media platforms. The Dream Job Academy series offers workshops that allow you to recognize your dreams and explore potenital career paths in order to realize your dream job! Registration is done through the Career Learning Network - search "Dream Job Academy" to sign up!

Make a visit to the Innis Residence Lobby any Tuesday between 12pm and 2pm and have a chat with our Career Educator, Kate Bowers, about anything from career options to grad school to résumé help! 

ROTMAN ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE

Are you interested in pursuing post-grad education in business? Why not consider the Rotman School of Management? You can attend their open house on November 6th for a tonne of information on everything they have to offer!

GRIEF SUPPORT SHARING CIRCLE 

Everyone grieves in his or her own unique way. When someone you love dies, you may feel angry, isolated, sad, guilty or lonely. The grief support sharing circle is an informal, drop-in, mutual-support group for students, who have experienced a death, as well as those experiencing anticipatory grief. It meets several times per semester.
 

MINDFUL MOMENTS: MEDITATION TECHNIQUES


 

WRITE NOW! CREATIVE WRITING SESSIONS

Most students at UofT have to use their writing abilities to collect grades, but very few harness writing's ability to destress and increase creativity. Write NOW! provides weekly creative writing sessions that embrace all writing comfort levels, and are lead by peer mentors in partnership with the UofT Poet in Community.  
 

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE 

 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING PROGRAM

The English Language Learning (ELL) Program is designed to help everyone achieve the high level of English required for top academic work at UofT. All sessions are free and taught by highly qualified instructors. Check this link out for all kinds of information, including more about the ELL Communication Cafés in the Innis Events Room!


 

LEARNING SUPPORT WORKSHOPS

There are learning support workshops available for international students through the Centre for International Experience, on Tuesdays from 10am-12pm. You can explore the weekly topics, and sign up for the event on the UofT Student Life website.

2017 GORDON CRESSY STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARDS

Do you know someone in their final year of study, who has contributed to the Innis College and/or University of Toronto communities? IN2U LEADERSHIP DAY: PATHWAYS TO LEADERSHIP


On Saturday, October 29th, Innis College & Residence present "IN2U Pathways to Leadership". This is a great way to explore how to be a student leader at Innis.

Featuring Guest Speaker Sean Kinsella, Student Affairs Professional and Indigenous Studies Professor, and StrengthsQuest, a workshop on identifying your individual strengths to transform your university and personal experiences.

OFF-CAMPUS REPRESENTATIVES: FREE FOOD

The ICSS Off-Campus Representatives have a bi-weekly tradition of Free Food events in the Innis College Commuter Lounge. Join them next Monday, October 17th, for a delicious (free) treat!

ASSOCIATE HIRING

If you would still like to become involved with the ICSS, keep an eye out for the hiring of associates for a wide variety of portfolios - happening very shortly!
 

WATER FOUNTAIN INSTALLED AT INNIS COLLEGE!

Installation of a drinking fountain in the main lobby of the College building is now complete! This is an initiative that successive student governments have asked for. The College was finally able to find the ideal location -- directly outside of the Registrar’s Office. The fountain is fully accessible and provides a bottle-filling function, which will help us avoid buying bottled water.

This project caps off a fulfilling year, in which a number of student-driven initiatives were realized. This includes a second-floor printing station, a trophy case, and new flooring and lockers in the basement.

Principal Charlie Keil would like to take this opportunity to recognize the dedication and persistence of Innis student leaders in pushing for these projects, and to our CAO, Cameron Clairmont, for ensuring that each was realized with such impressive attention to detail.

As of 17 October 2016 a monthly service charge of 1.5% compounded will be charged on any Fall Term fees not paid as of 30 September 2016. 

All students are encouraged to review the Fee Refund Schedules for Innis College and be aware of relevant dates when cancelling courses and/or registration.
