Celebrating Immigrant Heritage Month
View this email in your browser

To kick off #ImmigrantHeritageMonth, we are highlighting Congressman David Valadao (CA-21) and his family, who came to the United States from the Azores Island of Portugal in 1969. The Valadao family settled in the Central Valley, where they established a small dairy farm. Born in 1977, David Valadao attended local schools and grew up on his parent’s dairy farm. Valadao graduated from Hanford High School in 1995 where he met and went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Terra. Today, the couple lives on their Hanford dairy farm with their three beautiful children. Valadao became interested in politics as a regional leadership council chairman for an agriculture cooperative, a position that took him to Sacramento and Washington to advocate for dairy farmers. In 2010, Valadao was elected to represent California’s 30th State Assembly District. In 2012, Valadao was elected to represent California’s 21st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Currently in his third term, Congressman Valadao sits on the House Appropriations Committee and has established himself as a leader on agriculture and immigration policy.
“As the son of immigrants, I grew up experiencing first-hand the obstacles many immigrants face. I also know very well the work ethic of immigrant families, how they have become an essential part of the American workforce and are integral to our heritage and country’s ideals. I am proud to have grown up with the incredible example set by my parents, who worked so hard to give my siblings and I all the opportunities America has to offer.”
- Congressman Valadao
