CHLI Welcomes New Board Members Congressman William Hurd & LaKeitha Anderson

Washington, D.C –  The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) would like to welcome Congressman William 'Will' Hurd (R-TX) and LaKeitha Anderson, Senior Manager of Federal Government Relations for RAI Services Co., to our Board of Directors.

"I am proud to serve as the Representative for the 23rd District of Texas, a majority Hispanic district.  It is an honor to be selected for the Board of Directors of CHLI and I will continue to work with my colleagues to encourage and empower the next generation of Hispanic leaders," said Congressman Hurd.

“I am excited to serve on the Board of Directors for the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute and I look forward to working on initiatives that create life-changing opportunities for students who need the chance,” said LaKeitha Anderson.

CHLI President & CEO, Mary Ann Gomez Orta conveyed CHLI's pride in welcoming both Congressman Will Hurd and LaKeitha Anderson to the CHLI Board of Directors. "Their commitment to the U.S. Hispanic Community is outstanding, and we look forward to their many contributions while serving on the Board," she expressed.

Elected in 2014, Will Hurd is the first black Republican to be elected to Congress from Texas. His district spans from El Paso to San Antonio and includes over 820 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border – more than any other Member of Congress. For almost a decade, Will served as an undercover officer at the Central Intelligence Agency, working at the center of some of America’s most important national security issues. He focused on leading intelligence operations on cybersecurity, counterterrorism and other critical threats. Spending most of his career in the Middle East and South Asia, his primary mission was the recruitment of foreign assets, collection and dissemination of intelligence in support of the President and senior government policymaker’s national security decision making.

LaKeitha Anderson has over 15 years of experience in the political and government affairs arena.  She is currently a Senior Manager of Federal Government Relations for RAI Services Co., where she is responsible for advancing the corporations legislative objectives before Members of Congress, the Administration and other policy makers on issues such as excise taxes and FDA regulations. LaKeitha is a member of the Texas State Society Board of Directors, where she is Chair of the Sponsorship Committee and a member of the Black Tie & Boots Presidential Inaugural Ball Finance Committee. She currently serves on the National Black Caucus of State Legislators’ Executive Committee and a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church Public Policy Ministry. LaKeitha is very active in various social and professional organizations, such as The Links, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and Calibr, an ELC organization.
