SMITH ISLAND CAKES

TAHARKA BROTHERS ICE CREAM

BERGERS COOKIES

What's a celebration without tasty cakes and desserts?!?

The Smith Island Cake is the official dessert of the state of Maryland. The totally decadent, buttery, mile-high cake is 10-15 layers of heavenly goodness!

My fave is the yellow cake layered with fudge frosting, but the red velvet is pretty fabulous too!

But why choose? We can offer a whole tasting station - an absolute cake-a-palooza!

And let's not forget about the toppings! Taharka Brothers is a great option for seriously amazing, locally made ice cream.

And what would ice cream in Baltimore be without jimmies??? (For you non-native people- we call sprinkles jimmies in B-town.)

To make your ice cream sundaes really special, let's add a garnish of Bergers Cookies!

CARAMEL CREAMS AND COW TALES-OH MY!

Here's a fab recipe built around Baltimore's iconic, Goetze's caramel cream candy.

Turn a fantastic treat into a to-die-for decadent dessert at your next event.

GOETZE'S CARAMEL CREAM BROWNIES

INGREDIENTS
1 c. butter
4 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
36 unwrapped pieces of Goetze's caramel creams
1/4 c. evaporated milk
1 tbsp. butter
1 c. chopped walnuts, optional

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350. Combine chocolate and butter. Melt over very low heat. Cool slightly. Whisk eggs until frothy. Add sugar, vanilla, and salt. Beat on high speed for 5 minutes or until completely smooth. Stir in chocolate mixture and add flour. Beat just until blended. Pour 1/3 to 1/2 of the brownie mix into a lightly greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Cover bottom of the pan.

Bake 10 minutes at 350. Combine Goetze's caramel creams, evaporated milk, and butter. Stir frequently over medium - low heat and remove from heat when smooth. Remove brownies from oven and spread caramel cream mixture on top of the cooked brownies. Sprinkle nuts on top. Cover with remaining brownie mix.

Bake additional 25 to 30 minutes at 350. Cool for 2 hours in pan at room temperature to set caramel.

MEXICAN CUISINE

The IG team recently received a request for a party featuring authentic Mexican cuisine.

Now, our fantastic chefs have some amazing staples in their roster of Latin dishes, but I went on the search for some new and intriguing flavors.

I was in Westchester, New York visiting my son and went to a great little spot called bartaco.  I ordered lots of dishes and came away with some wonderful flavor profiles that the talented culinary artists at Innovative Gourmet used to create their own delish dishes for our clients' special event.

One item bartaco had, that we reimagined, is the individual key lime pie in a jar with key lime custard, graham cracker crust, and vanilla whipped cream. It was a huge hit!

We also recreated a refreshing watermelon, tequila, and mint cocktail and an amazing churro bar with dipping sauces including chocolate, tres leches and mango.

Our chefs created an elote dish, our version of Mexican street corn. We grilled the corn on the cob, and coated it with a mixture of cotija cheese, mayo, sour cream, chile powder, and lime and even more cheese!

And, of course, who doesn't love summertime tacos and margaritas?

If you now have a hankering for Mexican food, you may want to check out La Calle on South Street, a great local spot right here in Baltimore.

I’ve been a few times and my picks are.... The Ceviche De Cameron with shrimp, red onion, jalapeno, lime, avocado, cilantro, and sweet corn chips is excellent. My absolute fave dish was the Barbacoa de Cordero, a slow-cooked, braised lamb shank ---muy bueno!

And--- their version of an old-fashioned was outstanding.
